Flex Your Rights!

We have rights because people stood up for them and we must continue to stand. We must all advocate for ourselves and each other. Believe me, I know it is challenging and scary, but it is soooo important to utilize your rights... if not for you, then for others. OCD is protected under the ADA and, if you must leave your employment, under FMLA... currently, I am dealing with fighting for my rights; it is so hard and frustrating, and I often don’t want to do it... then I think of everyone else suffering with OCD, and I keep going. I’m not looking for a pat-on-the-back... I’m saying, if you have the voice then speak up, and if you don’t then that is okay, but ask your doctors and professionals in your life to speak for you. You have rights and it is very VERY important for us to flex them when facing discrimination. Together we’ll keep chipping away at stigma! Hoorah to all, much love!

You know a lot more of the clinical diagnoses than me. All the stuff around it too. Can you explain this to me? I'd love to know more. What is ADA? What is FMLA?

Sure, so ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act, and it protects you from discrimination, harassment, and allows you the right to request and receive reasonable accommodations unless it is a provable hardship to the business; OCD is recognized as being protected. FMLA is the Family Medical Leave Act which protects your compensation, benefits, position, status, and job duties (and more) for if you have to take leave from work for a medical reason or emergency; OCD is recognized as being protected. Furthermore, your position is made stronger if you have professional help from you doctors, specialists, and/or therapists. Make sense? Let me know, and let me know if you have any other questions! Great stuff!
