Severe neck pain

Hi folks? I'm a 57 year old male originally diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2020 and rediagnosed with MSA-P in 2022.I wondered if severe neck pain was a common symptom with MSA? I find I'm at my best in the morning after bed rest but as the morning goes on the head drops down with my chin anchored to my chest, as if held by a strong magnet

Anyone else suffer with same or similar symptoms?

My friend suffered with this, we were told it was called Head drop syndrome. Like you, it was easier in the morning but gradually got worse as the day progressed. She had a few rounds of Botox, which eased it slightly at first but after the 3rd round it didn't really help. Maggie stopped it then as getting to and from the appointment was quite difficult for her. I used to rub orange and neroli oil in her neck which she found soothing. She also had various neck collars. The sponge one was more comfortable for her than the plastic ones. These were given by a physio, so if you've not been referred to one for that reason try and get an appointment. Caroline.

Long before diagnosis a rehabilitation therapist noticed my strange neck position and pain. I began doing gentle stretches and light strengthening of muscles for posture improvement. I notice more pain if I skip a day. I would recommend a physio if you’re able.

It's called 'antecollis' and is a common MSA symptom. It was the first thing that started to cast doubt on my mum's PD diagnosis. Sadly botox didn't work and it affected her mobility quite quickly.
