Vitamins and MSA

Today I sorted out a shelf full of overlooked and mostly out of date vitamins! They feel a bit redundant in light of the enormity of MSA, but has anyone any tips on vitamins they have found helpful or been advised against taking? Many thanks

Hi

Sue has a nutritionist who has advised her to take a general vitamin supplement daily and a vitamin D tablet daily also.

The reasoning behind this is that as MSA progresses you eat lass as it's gets difficult and you go out less into the sunshine.

This she maintains the essentials needed.

Makes good sense, Paul, thanks and also to both you and Sue for the wealth of experience you share on this forum.

Hi Gill, I have been taking vit D, vit C & Zinc for 2.5years. All to boost immune system. GP knows and approves. It started for 3 reasons; I have a compromised immune system, I take a drug which supresses some immune system activity and I wanted extra protection against SARS-CoV2. In those 2.5 years I haven't had a cold (or flu, or Covid!).

My MSA diagnosis was only May this year but there is,in my opinion,no reason not to keep taking these 3 supplements. My consultant now knows of course. Interestingly after the (shocking) diagnosis meeting she ordered a full blood test and the result showed "..good vitamin D levels at 81 ."

I am currently researching other possible vitamins which just might be worth trying. Quercetin caught my attention as it is a known autophagy modulator. This is well tested including for human dosage so I suspect very little risk but of course do check with your professionals first.

I'll post some more about it when trialed.

That’s very interesting. Thank you for sharing your experience. I also saw Q10 mentioned for combatting fatigue in the latest MSA magazine so am trialling that in spray form.
