Our carers, who are very good, have told me that they think Ian is wheezing which is obviously not good. I have realised I am not really sure what wheezing actually sounds like. Certainly his breathing is noisy, more like moaning. We had a phone call and today a visit from our local Rennie Grove nurse. She took sats etc , all normal as when I did temperature and oxygen levels. No discomfort but in my opinion breathing is very shallow. It all upper chest not fully inflating the lungs. He feels fine but the noise drives me mad. Not just moaning sounds but huge explosions of outbreath including the vocal cords which is almost an explosion of noise. I am finding it hard to stay in the same room when it happens. Anyone else experienced this?

YES. It drives me nuts too, especially at night. Shallow breathing, and through his mouth. Graham is having a sleep study next week, which may explain some things. Never had any oxygen or temperature recordings though. Glad, sorry, that someone else experiences this, thought it was just me being awkard!!
Now we have had a home visit from the surgeries paramedic as the breathing seemed to be getting worse and I was getting worried. Chest is fine as are all the other indications! No infection anywhere. The only possible suggestion so far is thick saliva which he is trying to clear, apparently there are medications that can loosen it. It is back to the GP to take it further.
my mum only breathes from the top part of her lungs, her sats are always fine, her breathing looks more laboured and gets worse in the cycle of her PD drugs as her posture worsens. We've sadly just accepted it.
This may be the same for us in terms of acceptance.
My husband has the same sort of symptoms. Sleep study and blood gases all came back with in range. Looking at the replies it seems to be another msa gift that keeps on giving!! 😔 We just keep an eye and ear out for change and report to the parkinson/neuro team xx
My Sue has something similar in laboured and irratic breathing, that was noisy. Sats are normal but it frightened me as I thought she was taking her last breath, with gaps between breaths up to 20 seconds all the time.....I was literally listening to her breathing all night and thus getting no good sleep myself. So eventually after advice I had to move into a separate room where I now have baby monitor incase sue shouts me.
It does seem to be an MSA issue.
Good luck
Paul
Hi for another angle on this, my dad was quite croaky recently, and had thick saliva and a bunch of other symptoms. All vital signs were fine, but it's the time of year for viral colds. Turns out that's what it was. It sounds like what others are describing though is a more of a long term style of breathing. Maybe that's how to tell the difference.Kx
