Oh yes, and it drives me nuts!! Noisy breathing day and night, with open mouth, I`ve got used to it a bit now, but I have to say something if we are watching TV as I cant hear, and at night it disturbs my sleep. I dont think there is an answer to it though, again just one of the many things going on.

This seems very normal for msa. Noisy breathing, making random noises, laughing whilst asleep, shouting out. As I was working full time (most of the time at home luckily) whilst caring for my husband before he passed, I had to sleep in the spare bedroom next door with both doors open and just listen out for him if he needed me through the night. I couldn't function for work otherwise on the small amount of sleep I was getting due to P's shouting and I had to keep working to financially manage.

Not sure there's a great deal you can do with this one, but remember it's part of the condition and try and nap if you can to make up for lost sleep!

I wish you well x

Thank you

I’m still working as well as caring but we do have carers twice a day which helps a lot , Also Les sleeps on a hospital bed downstairs so I do manage to get sleep, although I can hear the breathing from upstairs it’s not too bad , I’m use to the shouting out as he has been doing this for years long before diagnosis x

Hi,

I was wandering if you are receiving support from your local hospice as they usually have a Nurse who might be able to support you with breathing problems. The lady I care for has been prescribed a small dose of Morphine sulphate as an “ as required” medication and this has helped with the gulping and sometimes laboured breathing which ,in turn, has made her breathing less noisy and erratic.

Also,a referral to your local sleep clinic might be helpful as a Capp machine at night might be beneficial.

Good luck

We have another name for it too😂

Hi,

Yes wheezing, irratic breathing rates, dreaming, shouting can be part of the condition.

I decided to move into a separate room as I wasn't getting much sleep.

Noisy breathing, stridor, dream enactment all common place this side too. With my wife the first pre-symptoms was dream enactment which which went on for a couple of years before other autonomic and motor symptoms started. Funny enough the dream enactment passed and rarely happens these days.

And although I didn't realise it at the time, but I too ended up moving into a different room because of my wife's peculiar high pitched snoring, which as things work out is not snoring per se, but is stridor. Cpap machine in the main eliminates this. But I still sleep in other room, as my wife is also in hospital bed, but to be honest I wouldn't be able to sleep in the same room with all this going on every night. I still keep a close ear out, and my wife has a "doorbell" she can press if she needs me. We living with this for some years now, but it is when I don't hear noise when she sleeping, that is when I start to get worried.

She can also get quite wheezy during the day at times (different to stridor).

Yes TC was making groaning noises a lot - very difficult and irritating! Never sure if he needed something as also has no speech. I've discovered for him it's trying to clear excess secretions. He has BiPap mask at night and wears during day if necessary. Have found that combination of drugs has been immensely helpful - omezaprole (off licence for secretions), nacys, Glycopyrronium bromide and hyoscine patch. Has decreased groaning to nil - except when he's due medication.

Abso - bloody-lutely, i reenact movies at the top of my voice most nights and also noisy sey breathing thingy too.

I also make some funny sighing noises, accompanied by random outbursts of noise akin to a Norman Wisdom impression!

Don't let the bugger get us down completely, its bloody hard but lets keep fighting
