Forgetfulness

My dad seems to be getting confused now and today , for instance I went down to see him and he was saying he hadn’t had his breakfast , which my mum had given him

So she was saying , he’s already had it , so I just gave him some more

Is this forgetfulness part of the MSA ?

Regards elaine

Oh Elaine it’s normal for me. I can’t remember what day of the week it is or what I’m supposed to be doing. Heading for a church meeting I turned up at the dentist to have an extraction. The receptionist seemed surprised when she explained I had had the tooth removed the day before.

After taking my shower this morning I put on my pyjamas and got into bed. When a friend called to pick me up for shopping I could not be convinced it was 11am and not 11pm. So for me yes it’s an MSA thing.

At 83, it could just be onset of age-related cognitive issues, but almost impossible to discern with what is currently known about MSA.

My sister has had MSA for quite a while, but recently has started getting more hallucinations, confusion and changes in cognition. We are still investigating but possibilities are:

Infection (usually urinary or chest)

Constipation

Low temperature

Low blood pressure

Or recently Amantadine taken for quite a while can cause these as side effects has been mentioned.

.

In no way am I suggesting these may be reasons for your loved one having these symptoms but it might be worth having a conversation with a specialist nurse or doctor as well as your GP

Regards, hope things go as well as they can,

Pippa

Thank you - he seems ok apart from this and won’t take any medication as he says nothing works , think he was hoping for a cure !

just takes a mild anti-depressant which helps his mood , very sad as he has never been a depressive person

he does get quite a few chest infections which is part of the condition by all accounts

i hope you get some more answers as well

such a cruel disease xx
