Wondering if anyone has any experience of passing out in the night? My Dad has had a few episodes where he gets up in the night and then passes out for a couple of minutes and is unresponsive. Any advice would be great

Passing out?
Hi, My husband does the same in the daytime. It would appear its caused by his blood pressure dropping extremely low. He does not get up at night for this reason. He wears a conveen, its like a sheath with a tube fitted, the urine then drains into a bag. I think it best you talk to the MSA nurse or perhaps his GP. Hope you resolve this problem. All the best, Carol
It’s a very common symptom but there are some things to try. MSA Trust has a fact sheet about managing blood pressure but I agree with Carol, MSA nurse, GP or consultant should be able to help.

Hi g2gem: I had a bout of passing out at night, when i was either on my way to or coming back from the loo. It's orthostatic hypotension which is a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing up. My doc increased my blood pressure meds and it hasn't happened since.
I would REALLY recommend not getting up in the night, but using a urinal (OT can supply or cheap to buy from mobility shops). Not so straightforward for ladies!
