Hi. I am not sure that I can be much help in giving you a clear answer to your question but I remember so well lying listening to Geoff’s breathing in the night if there was anything different. I did sometimes record it on the voice recorder on my phone because trying to remember it and explain the sounds can be hard. I can’t now remember exactly what those sounds were. I found symptoms came for a while and then changed. Some people with MSA use CPAP to help their breathing overnight for various reasons, we didn’t have that but Geoff did have a cough assist machine which we used to help him keep his airways clear when coughing and clearing secretions became harder, and a nebuliser to keep the secretions moist. In the night, on your own, your mind goes all over the place doesn’t it!

I would make a recording, make a note of other things going on, see if it lasts for more than a few nights and if so speak with the MSA nurse and then your GP.

Best wishes, Diane

It might be worth speaking to your doctor or parkinson team. Peter's breathing was at times noisy and sounded laboured. I recorded it which helped. They can do a sleep study to see what's going on. Best wishes Sharon x

Last night was better except he was shouting but he on clonazepam for that has been really bad in past hoping his brain isn’t getting used to the meds as it is awful with no meds the hitting and fighting

Have a look at the other posts, i remember seeing this acting out dreams in some of the replies. Lashing out is a problem. Not much fun ☹️ I'm sure there's a solution. Xx

He take clonazepam for think other one was melentonin before but that stopped working so really hoping we don’t go back to how he was can be very frightening when you are awoken to being punched and hair pulled would have moved bed but he gets anxious if I’m not there.

Gosh, that must be hard. Peter has only jerked and lashed out intermittently. I found tucking the duvet over his arms creates a buffer and reduced his aim when he's on his side. It's a good job i sleep with with so little of the duvet anyway. Sharon x

Hi there, I don’t know what dose of Clonazepam your husband is on but we found Jackie had to ‘experiment’ - with the doctor’s guidance - to find the right compromise between a peaceful night (for me!) and being drowsy in the morning. Take care, Ian

I have this issue with my husband, his breathing is very spasmodic., rarely quiet, quick shallow breaths, strange noises, and sometimes I think stops breathing for a time. (apnea) I also recorded it. It keeps me awake but not him, but he does sleep a lot during the day. Also he breaths through his mouth all the time, and that is noisy. I don`t know what can be done about it, and in the daytime he doesn`t seem to know that he is doing it, I just have to tell him to try and breath through his nose.

If he is sleepy during the day then I think that perhaps he needs a sleep study. Talk to the GP or Neurologist or MSA Nurse at the MSA trust. This can be a common thing to have done for sufferers.
