Does anyone take allopurinol with an ace inhibitor HBP med ? Have recently had sore feet, not red or hot to touch but sometimes tingly/numbness and shooting pain. Haem prescribed allopurinol as urate is just tipping over normal range. Currently taking RUX have taken HU in the past and took a one time starter course of allopurinol when first started HU. TIA

Another on Allopurinol

Hi, I’m interested to see if anyone has comments too. Recently diagnosed as just higher than normal uric acid readings. Have had a very sore toe , complicated in that I have a broken sesamoid in that foot that caused significant acute pain. Rheumatologist initially wasn’t concerned about gout as the reading was not way over normal but has now changed his mind . Has prescribed Allopurinol and Colchinine (on Monday , not arrived at pharmacist yet..) . I had nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass July 2023, on the usual cocktail bisoprolol 1.25?, ramipril half a 1.25 tablet , pantaprazole, aspirin ( can this cause raised uric acid ?) and Rosuvastatin 10mg.
My flare up really started after having total hip replacement October 2024, the lower leg and foot of the operated leg really swelled up and became painful , checked out ant A&E and no clots . Eventually went away but excruciatingly painful for weeks. Urates were normal apparently 🤦🏼.
But since I’ve returned to running the painful toe has come back on a regular basis . I am not totally convinced that gout is the only cause of the pain.
I think having myelofibrosis increases one's uric acid, without any help from anything else. My wife was put on allopurinol a few years back, while on hydroxycarbamide and a lot of other drugs, not because she had gout but to reduce her uric acid. She's now on Jakafi but still on allopurinol, her uric acid levels are high normal, which makes one believe they would be quite high if it wasn't for the allopurinol.
