All,
Even though I'm on hydroxycarbamide my Haematocrit level jumped from 0.45 to 0.5 in the space of ten weeks.
Has anyone else had a sharp rise.

Also, to add. As it had gone up to 0.5 my consultant has increased my dosage rather than requesting a venesection.
You need to get venisected asap until Hct is 45 if male, your Haem should know that
yup. Sometimes they use a different machine and results could vary a lot. I had two readings on different machines taken from the same sample and one was .45 and the other .50
I generally do not see that quick of an increase in HCT. Was there any difference in your level of hydration? I would also consider a repeat CBC to verify the finding.
Also agree with Ainslie. If the 50% finding is confirmed, a venesection would be more effective in the short-term than raining the dose of HU. Some people find using both a cytoreductive agent and occasional venesection is a better approach that minimizes adverse effects while maintaining the HCT target.
Suggest you review your treatment plan with a MPn Specialist.
Do phlebotomy asap.No wait
Hi Mark I am old school with all the jargon but I have been on Hu since 1999 I started on it due to a blood clot to the liver I was initially on one every day Mon -fri and 2 sat and sun through time with some tinkering about they have got it down to near normal but I am still on one on a Monday but I have yearly appointments but every time I get near my appointment I have to go to practice nurse with letter from consultant what bloods need done and get letter from consultant how bloods are and then get re done at hospital appointment
Stay safe
