I have had four surgeries, including a major brain surgery. In most cases, I discontinue aspirin 3 days before a procedure. Thrombosis and excessive bleeding has not been an issue. I have experienced some reactive thrombocytosis due to the procedures, but that is to be expected. Otherwise, my recoveries have been no different than anyone else.
I’ve had a blepharitic cyst removed from my eyelid. No one told me to stop aspirin. There was no more bleeding than normal. I was back at work the next day.
I ended up having a blepharoplasty this past October in order to remove a mole from my eyelid. I stopped my anticoagulant 3 days prior to the surgery and restarted it the day after the surgery. I had no issues. Good luck!
You are right to be concerned. Ive had a couple of bleeding complications in the past. However in those cases i was told i didnt need to stop the Aspirin. In the future, if it have surgery or tooth extraction i will be stopping the Aspirin a week before regardless of what they say.
For me, the trauma of the blood loss and resulting days in hospital were far worse than the procedure i was having.
Any trivial procedures the Dr has recommended me, i have declined, deeming it not worth the bleeding risk.
This link has some info on when to stop aspirin to reduce bleeding risk for Blepharoplasty. alabamasurgicalarts.com/pat...
