Hello,
I was wondering if anyone with PV has had problems with their dental implants?
I might have to have one put in, but am hesitating as I am worried it might be a source of infection later down the line.
Thanks in advance.

I have just completed 2 implants, one upper and one lower. It took 2 tries to get them implanted well. That required an extra 4 mos. of waiting for healing of the tissues enough to be strong to hold the metal implants. Now, their crowns are on and so far feeling strong and stable.
I had an implant on other side of mouth 6 yrs. ago even with the PV diagnosis it has held well. My diagnosis was in 2016 with JAK2+. Have been on 500mg Hydrea for 3 years.
I have an option for one more implant but debating on switching to a non-metal type, zirconium. I can say that the Hydrea has hastened gum erosion and teeth are softer. Mouth sores quite often too. I would encourage implants for having surfaces for chewing and jaw stability is needed as we get older. Research the types of implants available in your area and for dentists which are quite skilled with them, check their track record!
Have numerous friends that have their dental work done in Mexico, rates so much more affordable and the dentists seem to have more updated methods, tools and success rates.
May it go well for you.
I had one done with PV , no probs at all, the key is finding the best dentist/doc to do it
Hi,
I am currently in the midst of having my 2nd implant put in and waiting an additional 2 months to make sure my tissues have properly healed. After the extraction I took antibiotics for 5 days to ward off infection and did fine with them. I have PV and take Besremi biweeky. I was concerned initially because of the introduction of Besremi but I have had no problems so far. My 1st implant was done before Besremi ,but with a diagnosis of PV and it has held very well. I'm glad I am going through it even though it is more expensive than other options. Make sure you find a very good dental surgeon who has done numerous implants and you'll be "good to go"! Good luck!
I had one put in over a year ago. No issues. This procedure should not be a high risk for infection if you follow the instructions. They may provide antibiotics and a rinse to prevent. Went to Oral Surgeon to pull tooth and stitch the gum. Waited 4 months to heal before implant. Then dentist for crown. Very expensive. Paid like $8500 for everything including panoramic X-rays.
Here are 2 in Mexico that friends have used and are pleased with results of care.

Safety was not an issue, but we know how the world is at this time. My friends have had appointments there this year, so very recently visited the clinics.
Worth the traveling. Best of research and decisions to you,
