Traveling with Besremi or Pegasys

Hi,

If you are currently taking Besremi or Pegasys and planning a vacation during the summer you may have concerns about traveling and keeping your medicine cool and within the recommended temperature range.

I recently had similar concerns as I accidentally left my fridge door open and the temperature of my Besremi increased to 13C, well above the recommended 2 to 8C. I did some research on the internet to see if the temperature excursion meant that Besremi would no longer be effective when I came across this site :

sps.nhs.uk/home/tools/refri...

It confirms that a temperature excursion to 25C for up to 24 hours is OK and, if chilled again, the medicine can be stored and used as normal.

I hope this helps your vacation planning.

I'm on Pegasys, and my Son is a T1 Diabetic. We have these bags from FRIO in the UK which are amazing. for anyone interested here's an Amazon Link but they are also avalable direct from the manufacturer. They work super well. amazon.co.uk/FRIO-Duo-Sea-G...

I travel with Besremi using a well insulated cooler bag and 1-2 get ice packs. There is an issue with Besremi not being able to go through the security X-ray though. The cooler with medication needs to have a visual inspection. PharmaEssentia has a Travel letter that you can have signed by your doctor. besremi.com/pdf/BESREMI-tra...

I have not needed it for domestic travel in the USA but did use it once for international travel flying out of the airport in Austria.
