My mum had her blood tests and for the first time since she was diagnosed with ET her platelets are within normal range. She is taking Hydroxyurea.. The only issues the tests show are slightly lower white cell count and low hematocrit around 36. Are these side effects of the medication?Thank you for your always valuable feedback

I’m relatively new to ET , but my understanding is that hydroxy can’t target just platelets and can lower other counts.

HU reduces the production of all lines of blood cells, not just platelets. Anemia is one of the risks associated with HU as is compromise of the immune system. Suggest discussing the acceptable ranges (a little low is OK) with her hematologist.
