Hello My question is, I have very bad toothache and can’t see a dentist for a couple of weeks ! I want to take a painkiller stronger than paracetamol? Has anyone been in a similar situation and was able to take something stronger ?
Thank you for reading this and I do hope someone has some advice for me.

Other than toothache topicals, the only other option I know of is the opioid painkillers. those are so overused and abused, it is unlikely you would readily access them. Suggest that you put in a call to the dentists office to ask for assistance.
thank you Hunter for your reply. I’ll phone again today hopefully they can give me some advice . Always very careful with other medication when taking Pegasys. At least my pharmacist was being cautious and not prescribing something that could have interfered with my medication.
You are wise to be careful about drug interactions. I always double check myself using the epocrates.com app (a professional medication app). The drugs.com/drug_interactions... is also good.
I have used opioid painkillers for migraines and I have MF. But I’m concerned whether the pain could be caused by an infection. Infections left untreated can be come systemic-get into your blood system. Then they’re quite serious. Is there another dentist you can see? Katie
Hi, in the UK it is usually possible to access an emergency dentist by going through the 111 system. I've done it before myself. They will often take xrays and prescribe antibiotics if required. I was seen within a couple of days, so it is worth a try.
I have taken cocodamol purchased from a chemist on occasions with no problem...its the lower dose of codeine in it, but it helps. Maybe talk to a pharmacist about it x
Thank you RCBr for your reply. I went last night and spoke to a pharmacist he wouldn’t give me anything because he didn’t know enough about the drug I take. I know I need a root canal and will have to wait unfortunately. Hopefully I will get a cancellation appointment 🤞
I had a tooth abscess and was given antibiotics and codeine/paracetamol. The antibiotics take c 3 days to kick in so you are only on the opioid for a very short time. You may need a root canal but the current pain maybe caused by infection so get to the dentist to prescribe something for the interim
Thank you for your reply. I know I need a root canal unfortunately but can’t get an appointment until the 11th. Meanwhile I need to keep the pain at bay. I’m going to contact my Dentist today and see what they suggest . I’m worried now that it might be an infection
I am on peg and had neck and head pain a little while ago. Took neurofen and paracetamol. You can take them alternately every 3 hours if needed. They work better together than on their own. I would wait to take first neurofen of the day at least a few hours after the 75mg aspirin. It worked for me but still best check with your doctor. Hope you get it sorted
Hi, I have MF and gum disease so have had lots of tooth infections before they eventually fall out…not to kill pain, but if you are worried about possible infection, either wash your mouth with cooled, boiled salty water 3-4 times a day, or if you can bear the disgusting taste..rub tea tree oil on the gum around the tooth 2x daily…both will help get rid of an infection.
Please try to see an emergency dentist or maybe a MD who could prescribe a antibiotic if they feel it is necessary. You don't want to go to sleep at night and wake up with swelling as big as a basketball, it can happen though it is rare. Best to you.
