I am still trying to get an appointment with an MPN specialist.
In the meantime, I am due to start Hydrea in 2 weeks.
I was hoping to take some vitamns to "prepare" my body. However, when I asked at the pharmacy, I was told I had to be caregul and I had to talk to my hematologist.
I asked previously about vitamins and Peginterferon, but didn't have a chance to ask about Hydrea during my last consultation.
Is anybody aware of any interructions or has any recommendations?
Thank you very much.

Hi! I was advised not to continue taking Starflower supplements. All the best for your next appointment and this is a definite question to be discussed then.
Hi - I had the same issue, but got advice from the pharmacy. I take Glucosamine, cod liver oil & magnesium. However, I would still get professional advice from haematologist if possible.
I'm sure anything containing B vitamins/iron can be bad for people with PV as they can raise HCT, irrespective of whether or not you take interferon/hydroxycarbamide. Always best to check with your consultant.
Re taking Vit B or iron, be very careful with iron as it can spike Hct,but with B’s , Vit C etc it depends on how well your MPN is controlled by your meds, I take B and C and others but I am well controlled on Rux, I didn’t take them on venisection only
It's def worth getting vitamins checked out with your haemotologist, I've had to take iron recently prescribed by GP as i had very low levels and in doing so its made my platelet count increase, the Haemotologist wasnt too happy! My Vit D and B12 is also low but they're happy with me taking supplements for these as theres no affect on my blood work. Better to ask!
Hi, I take Hydra and my doctor said it was okay to take Vitamin D and C, fish oil and magnesium. But, you should definitely check before taking anything new.
Hi, I know Vit D is ok as when Covid started we were sent free supply of Vit.D . I have E.T and on 500 mg Hydroxy daily. Not sure about other vitamins but would think C is Ok.
