Hi

I have PV and I am 65 in October. I have been given an appointment for the pneumococcal vaccine. Just wondering how others were after getting the vaccine, thanks.

Hi, I'm 62 and was given it during covid. I was absolutely fine after it other than a very achy arm for a few days

My doc recommended that I get the pneumonia vaccine at the same time as the flu vaccine. It was the first time I ever had a reaction when getting the flue vaccine. Both arms were quite sore and I felt like I had to flu for 24 hours. I will not double up on vaccines again. I would be fine with doing either by itself as needed.

Hi! I’m 67 and had this jab along with a flu jab. I was absolutely fine, just achey arms for a couple of days.

I had mine a couple of years ago. No reaction apart from a bit of soreness at the injection site for a few days.

Mine was fine but like Hunter I had it done separately to any other vaccines

Hi

Can’t recommend highly enough that you have the pneumonia vax. I put it off having had my 6th covid and then flu vaccine.

Boy did I learn a lesson! I caught pneumonia, it lasted 2 months, I felt more ropey than I’d EVER felt in my life.

I had the pneumo vax 2 weeks after recovering, felt a bit off colour for 36 hours - but as nothing compared to pneumonia!

I’m 69 have PV and take 1000nfs HU daily

I just had the Prevnar 20 shot a few weeks ago. I had a little bit of a sore arm but it was minor. I have PV.

Hi. Yes I had the pneumonia vaccine when I was first diagnosed with PV, I would have been under 50 at the time. Like Hunter, I was advised to have the flu in one arm and the pneumonia vaccine in the other. Luckily the pneumonia vaccine is a one off. It is the only time I have ever experienced the "flu like" symptoms they warn about with vaccines. I have steered clear of doubling up ever since and prefer to have my vaccines separately. If you have been advised to have it, it is worth getting and lasts a life time.

As Hunter says don’t double up, one at a time. I was also sick after having both at the same time.
