Shingles vaccine.
Hi am am ETJak2+, I am unable to have the live shingles vaccine with nhs, but I have read that there is an inert vaccine available. Has anyone had this on the nhs and if so how did you achieve it. Thank you in advance.

My haematologist offered me the shingles vaccine when it first became available It’s for the over 50s Shingrix? I too am ET on HU. It’s in two parts but for some unknown reason it’s now impossible to get hold of. Waits of over 18 months for part 2.Most doctors have given up ! Think it has some rare side effects and several deaths maybe reason why it seems to be on hold for so long ?
Side effects and deaths, dear dear, don't think I will bother thanks.
I checked with my nurse, shingrix is not available in England, she seemed to think it came down to cost.
Sounds right, thanks.
I had this two weeks ago privately in London. I spoke to Guy’s Hospital first and Prof Harrison approved it. The side effects are severe and I felt really rough for two days but hopefully better than having singles! Having the second dose in October.
Hi Jenny,
That’s interesting. Did you have the live vaccine? Do you mind me asking the reason for having it, given your age?
Judy
Hi Judy, I had Shingrix, the non live vaccine, which is recommended from age 50 (I’m 51). I’ve seen my dad suffer from Shingles and Shingles is most common after the age of 50 so I didn’t want to wait. The live vaccine is only recommended for people 60 and over.
