I have been on interferon for 2 months with no side effects until an odd, hard red spot appeared on my shin. Didn't hurt or bother me other than looking at it. Excellent info sharing here--I found several references to side effect rashes and they pointed to erthema nodosum. Went to dermatologist who was puzzled upon seeing it. She said it was not familiar and needed a biopsy anyway to confirm what she might have thought it was. I suggested erthema nodosum might be it and that triggered her thoughts. Anyway, got the biopsy results back: panniculitis rash, an inflammation response to an underlying disease or drug, cause is usually a known response to drugs Interferon alpha, potassium bromide, apomorphine, and interleuken2. Most common form is erthema nodosum. The inflammation is actually under the skin in a fat layer, is a hard lump tender to touch, usually red or purple in skin color. I was happy to have found info on this site that helped me feel better to begin with and again happy to have it confirmed by the biopsy. Stopping interferon will clear it up but that's not going to happen. Only concern thus far is not sure about getting another biopsy on shin. The dermatologist started the procedure with a pain shot to numb the area. It was extremely painful. I have had hundreds of shots and blood draws, but nothing compared to what the dermatologist did. Stay safe!

Hi Mishie14, glad you got it sorted and know what the problem is, though sorry to hear that the pain shot was painful. Best wishes, Maz
thanks so much for sharing!
About 2 months after starting Besremi I developed a rash on my trunk and arms. It was mildly pruritic. In addition I developed some 2-3 superficial hard colorless nodules in my armpits. No increased sensitivity s add tracked to these
I am now 7 months on Besremi and the rash remains and the pruritis is only obvious with a hot shower
I take it as a small price for this effective treatment and what hopefully could be a cure
Did they start you on any treatment like a topical steroid? And was it only one nodule or several? Not sure why it would need a repeat biopsy so soon unless you got more or if it was just one. Erythema nodosum typically is bilateral and painful. So sometimes our biopsies don’t always fit and we like to repeat them. Sorry it hurt! Lidocaine with epi burns and shins are so tender! Hope you feel better soon.
