Bloodshot eyes, interferon

Hi allHas anyone else experienced very bad blood shot eyes?

Felt an ache in my right eye and the next morning the whole of the white of the eye was covered with blood...day 2 and not receding.

I'm on a fairly low dose of Inteferon, 45mcg fortnightly, with good results this far.

Wondering whether Interferon can affect the eyes?

Pegasys can affect the eyes. Serious adverse effects include: vision loss, retinal hemorrhage, retinal thrombosis. Other Reactions include blurred vision. red, irritated eyes.

What you are describing is a significant emergent reaction symptom. You should notify your MPN care Team ASAP.

I agree that you need to see your medical team about this. It may be a infection, which they can swab for, and clear it with antibiotics.

If it's just one eye then probably an infection. Over a period of months interferon normally relieves and prevents blood shot eyes, red cheeks, burning feet and night sweats caused by ET , PV or early primary MF disease.
