I've managed to avoid covid for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, I had a positive result a couple of days ago. I contacted oncology helpline line, they informed me to stop taking hydroxycarbamide until I feel better and have a negative result. Haematology rang me yesterday, told me to ring my gp to sort out antiviral medication. I rang my surgery, I spoke to receptionist who informed me I can order them on line on gov.uk. I ended up ringing 111 they said they will arrange for my gp to call me to discuss the matter. My gp rang me and said he'd look into it, I haven't heard anything back.
I have felt awful, high temperature, coughing, aching , feeling nausea etc.

I have to say tho my experience was very good. I called my GP surgery on Sunday AM and by Sunday evening, my GP called me back I had a call from the NHS central covid team who then told me I would have a call from the dispatch on Monday. They called me first thing and My drugs arrived Monday night.
I think it’s very variable on the area. I’m in SW London so maybe that helps. I would chase them.
Hope you get better. My Covid was very mild and I never had a fever - but could not shake the tiredness. Taken 3 weeks to sort of fee back to normal.
I’m sorry to hear that - it seems like those of us who are well vaccinated but haven’t had Covid yet are very vulnerable to this new variant, as I know lots of people who’ve finally got it after dodging it for 3 years!
I finally got Covid for the first time last week and while it was a nuisance it wasn’t serious, just like a head cold, and I’m feeling fine again.
I took the antiviral medication (Paxlovid) with no significant side effects and it helped.
Covid caught up with me last October. Filled in NHS app. Auto reply was they would be in touch 24 to 48 hours later. Still waiting. Fortunately I only had runny nose and itchy eyes. Like a million feathers in my nose and eyes. No high temp or cough. It went on my chest and had antibiotics and steroids for 2 weeks.
I dodged covid until November 2022. Then got what I thought was a cold, tested positive and then phoned NHS 24, they gave me a local health board covid line number and I spoke to a lovely specialist chest Consultant who told me that I didn’t need the antiviral meds as Covid now is a relatively mild disease and just to take paracetamol. I felt rubbish for 2 days and the next day it felt like a mild cold. 3 days later I was symptomless. The most annoying thing was that I tested positive for another week so was stuck in the house. (The other half tested positive for 3 days was symptomless and smug 😕 he did go out and get me chocolate to cheer me up though😊)
I know everyone is different and I am only 62 and on aspirin and not Hydroxy. My mother in law is 89 with Alzheimer’s and osteoporosis and she had a mild illness and recovered quickly as well. Once you have had covid the COVID anxiety disappears. I do feel differently about it now much more relaxed in how I live my life.
It must be frustrating for you to have to phone them back and chase them up, I suspect that they are a bit disorganised because they are not as worried about the effects of COVID on their patients these days though it would certainly be more helpful if they could communicate that to patients in a more reassuring way.
