Had a bmb this afternoon, a lot more painful than last time. They had a lot of trouble getting a sample, and had to have a two or three goes! Home now and quite a bit of pain in the area. Taken some pain killers which I hope will kick in soon. Feels like a horse has been kicking me.
Fingers crossed for a good result. There was some fibrosis six months ago, hopefully it hasn’t got worse.

It was a different doctor. She had to do a lot of “digging” about, as they couldn’t get a sample (I don’t part with anything easily!) Still feel very sore this morning, can’t get comfortable sitting or laying. Pain all around bottom of my back and down the backs of my thighs. I’m taking painkillers.
Maybe next time use the other doc to do the BMB. My doc warned me that different docs have different level of skill at BMBs. Hope the pain killers are kicking in. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Thank you, unfortunately you don’t get to choose in the nhs! You’re just lucky to be seen! Feel slightly better but still got pain even with tablets. I expect it will fade in a few days.
That is unfortunate. Ideally, one should always be able the choose the provider for any procedure like a BMB. Some really are better than others. Hope you are up and dancing soon.
If you have to have another one at some point, you can request sedation. That's what I did when I had my recent BMB, and it was much better than the first. No need to be a martyr!
I had the gas and air, the procedure itself wasn’t too bad it’s now it’s VERY painful! I’m taking painkillers, can’t get comfortable sitting or laying down.
I remember the whole process and the terrible pain throughout so well!! I don’t know how some people can drive after or go back to work?!?!?😵💫
I asked for sedation but, was denied it as it takes up a bed to recover from it! I had gas and air but, the tube became detached half way through.. 🙄just my luck! Keep taking regular pain relief and rest up, try to walk around at home a little too, otherwise you may become stiff. The pain and bruising will subside eventually. All the very best x
I feel slightly better when walking round, the procedure was bearable with the gas and air, however the pain since has been horrendous, I can’t get comfortable either sitting or laying down. My last one was a lot better, the pain wasn’t bad and soon disappeared afterwards. Maybe it’s the skill (or lack of) of the doctor doing the procedure that makes a difference.
Yes, I’m sure that makes a huge difference. The doctor I had was extremely experienced and lovely but, she was training a health care professional, and she was the one at “the sharp end” - literally!!😱
Feeling for you as I had one on 29th December. This one not as bad as 1st one 5 years ago but I was chatting to the nurse about Christmas etc and then wow needed gas and air.I agree painful after it's taken awhile to settle down and now painfree when lying down.A doctor did this one and it seemed he was caring.Take plenty of paracetamol.Regards Lynn
Very sorry to hear about that experience. My first and only was done with a local and it was beyond painful - never again. Good luck with the results. Saltmarsh
sorry to hear about how you are feeling. I have had several BMBs and always have max local aesthetic and g&air. The docs always say that I need almost double anesthetic to other people but if I don’t I can literally feel everything! It’s such an unpleasant feeling isn’t it, during and after. My first one resulted in pain like you are experiencing and it turned out I had a little infection so keep an eye on it. Best of luck xx
hi. Hope your pain easing. Just had my fourth BMB. All the entenox I could inhale. Sedation not available. But was OK , just. V experienced nurse. Do hope she got a decent core. Last two times( at two diff hosps) core was crushed and too short.
If yr hospital doesn’t do proper sedation, you can try asking yr GP for a single dose of a fast acting benzodiazepine to take beforehand which has a similar effect. Though your GP might well look at you as though you are a drug addict.
