Potential Good News - Israel Considering Inclusion of Expanded Gene Panel in Healthcare Basket

My MPN specialist confirmed that the committee which makes the annual decisions on which new medicines/treatments/technologies to include in the public healthcare basket is considering the inclusion of the expanded gene panel as standard of care for MPNs.

This would mean that all MPN or suspected MPN patients would have the full gene panel included as standard of care at no cost. This would also apply for tracking progress/response to IFNs. My doctor says they had tried in the past but were not successful but feel much more positive this go around (probably helps that the new head of the committee is the director of the hematology division at one of the best hospitals in the country and dean of one of the best medical schools).

We should know early in 2023 if the gene panel is included in the basket.

Happy Holidays to all and a healthy and happy 2023!

That does sound like good news. Hopefully the move to using NGS data will become the standard of care for MPNs everywhere.

As Hunter says, NGS should be with every MPN Dx. Even if we don't know what to do with all of it right now we will value this info in the future. Good to know at least one country is getting modern.

the Israelis are amazing. They are strong on energy medicine too. I’m becoming a huge fan of that and bought myself a Bemer Mat to increase blood flow in our capillaries! I’m in Austria and they are also considering a gene panel for all young children for standard of care. So amazing!! It doesn’t even cost a lot. I pay more to get B3, B6 and some other for me important values that are not covered by the insurance.
