I am waiting for an appointment for a scan of my spleen as I am getting a lot of pain from it, more so since my iron infusion. It seemed to settle down for a few days but I’ve got up this morning and the pain under my left ribs is quite significant, in fact it seems to go right round to my back.
I started to have some breakfast cereal but it made me feel sick. I’ve probably been laid in a position that put pressure on it. Hopefully it will ease off during the day. It does seem worse when I sit down, usually when I’m up and about it goes off.
If the scan does show an enlarged spleen is there any treatment? I’m on Anagrelide and aspirin for ET.

I found that Jakafi worked to quickly shrink my spleen. My spleen was really enlarged, so much so that it pressed on my stomach, making me feel full after just a few bites of food. I lost a lot of weight, which I didn't need to lose as I'm slim to begin with. The Jakafi did cause me to gain some extra weight, but not too much because I was aware that weight gain could be a side effect.
Thank you for replying. The pain settled down after a session at aqua fit! It’s got worse since the reduction of my Anagrelide which was supposed to help reduce my anaemia, hopefully the iron infusion has worked and it can be increased again which should reduce my platelets again and the spleen.
Hi I spoke to my consultant yesterday about spleen pain and discomfort. It is now 18cm and know can get larger but he's suggested peg inteferon will reduce size and improve other symptoms. I'm thinking about it!
Anagrelide gave me huge migraines so went back to HU. Onco offered interferon but refused, would not be able to inject myself hate needles. I'm a wuss.
