Hi, has anyone else had or suffer with bruising at the slightest touch of the forearm? They are deep purple bruises when it happens and sometimes it’s so sligh I don’t even remember doing it. I am on 75mg aspirin and Hydrea 500 daily? ET & JAK2 positive

Bruising at the slightest touch
It sounds like you should check with your specialist asap. You might be directed to do some lab tests. Your platelet count might be very high.
Yes I get so many bruise type marks on hands and arms they look awful- I don't even remember touching or scratching against anything (I only have to touch my face in the night and I wake with dark red marks). I'm Et Jak2 on aspirin and 45mcg pegasys, platelets around 300. Been getting these marks for years. In the last couple of years my skin has really aged, very thin and the wrinkles! At least I feel well.
Had my platelet’s done 5 weeks ago came back at 377 I feel great otherwise? They look so ugly though
Katnap123, now is a good time to learn about collagen. Ryan Taylor has a good youtube video called #1 Mineral To BOOST Collagen where he begins discussing the mineral then incorporates foods to build collagen. Dr Berg also has a youtube video titled The #1 Nutrient to Boost Your Collagen (NOT VITAMIN C). Both videos provide valuable information that benefits not only the skin to control bruising and purpura but your whole body.
Can’t you just take collagen as a supplement? I also have a dry thin crepe skin after 5 years on Hydroxycarbamide
Murdoch01, there are clinically proven collagen supplements like Verisol to check into and it's important to spend time learning about collagen supplements and how they are made. If you have had a chance to watch the videos you'll know what collagen supplements need to benefit your body. Incorporating supplements with collagen building foods offers a systematic way to restore your skin and preserve your muscle. Liposomal vitamin C offers higher absorption levels that last longer than non liposomal forms. At this stage it will offer resistance to bruising and purpura. If anything, it will provide evidence of collagen's purpose as vitamin C stimulates the biosynthesis of collagen. Your job will be to provide your body the building blocks through food or quality supplements to meet the higher stress placed on your body by a MPN.
I too am ET JAK 2, take Hydrea 1000 mg one day, 500 mg six days and aspirin daily; bruised terribly without touching anything, until Prof Harrison advised that I cut back from the two capsules of strong dose turmeric I was taking daily to fight the osteoarthritis. Now I take one capsule of turmeric daily, have slightly more sore knees, but have stopped bruising so easily.Of course, you may not even take turmeric and it is always a good idea to consult your specialist. It's all a juggle ...
I take the very same medicines that you take and get easily bruised. Maybe I'll cut back on the turmeric.
Hi I am JAK2 positive PV, I have the bruising issue but can bruise anywhere and the slightest knock ends in a big bruise , had this for some time now only recently diagnosed and not on hydroxy but have this for at least a year prior to dx
Hi. Yes I worry about bruising alot. I have PV and on aspirin and alternate daily Hydroxy capsules 1 or 2 a day. I bruise badly and really painfully. I have the slightest knock which doesn't hurt but then seconds later a get a lot of pain followed by an enormous bruise. Platlets and red cells all ok but my white cells are uncontrolable. Whenever I mention it to GP or Haematologist they just comment that is probably just my aspirin, but I dread the day I fall or something and really hurt myself.
I have ET and PV JAK2 and have been taking ruxolitinib for the last 2 years. I have gotten huge bruises on my stomach. Recently after a dental appointment for a crown, I developed a huge hematoma on the side of my face that has taken 2 weeks to go away. I am not sure if it is the blood disorders, meds or blood thinner I take. I have developed systemic inflammation throughout my body it seems.
Excessive bleeding/bruising can occur either as a function of the thrombocytosis and/or as a side effect of aspirin. I did used to get excessive hemorrhage when my platelet levels were around 800 or so. This was pronounced when taking aspirin. Now that the thrombocytosis is so well controlled on Besremi this is no longer an issue,
Excessive hemorrhage is an issue that needs to be reviewed with your MPN Specialist. Suggest contacting that doc at your earliest opportunity.
Are you taking turmeric? I started bruising easily ( big ones) without even so much as a knock. I informed my heamo and she suggested to stop taking turmeric.
Thanks Wyebird, no I take nothing other than what I mentioned I take thyroxine 100mg and a very mild steroid inhaler daily? The problem is I’ve moved house, the GP has referred me to the new hospital apparently he only marked the referral as routine which could take up to 14 weeks to be seen…. I’m going to chase the Haematology secretary today to see if she can push my referral on for me ( GP hadn’t got a clue about my condition)
