I'm in the UK and was diagnosed two and a half years ago with ET JAC+ and haven’t travelled abroad since then. Some friends and I are planning a short trip to Amsterdam or Bruges this year to celebrate our 70th birthdays and I was wondering if people on here, especially those in the UK, had experience of travel insurance and could give me some idea if, and by how much, the cost would be increased due to my MPN? I don’t have exact details of the trip yet but would like to know if the cost is likely to be a problem. Also if anyone could recommend an insurance company. Thanks in advance.

Hi, we have details of insurance companies who have provided insurance cover to people with MPNs, mpnvoice.org.uk/wp-content/...

Hi Blaablaablaa, I have Travel Insurance through my bank (HSBC) and I called them in November to check I was still covered despite having ET and they confirmed I was still covered and then sent me a letter so that I had it in writing that it was an accepted condition and covered by the insurance. This was quite a relief as I was travelling to the US the next day!
Hi, I am with LV and have ET Jak2. They took a few days to refer it to their people but no problem and small premium rise. Go and enjoy your trip.
Thanks everybody for your kind replies. I shall look those up, thanks. x
Unfortunately, I think you’ll find that it’s hitting 70 that puts your insurance up by a lot, rather than having ET.
Hi, I was diagnosed with MPN ET Jak2+ a couple of months before we were due to go on holiday to Turkey (year before the pandemic struck) Our travel insurance is through our bank account with First Direct. They asked a few questions and then checked and said MPN ET was their ‘approved list’ so there were no additional costs. I was 62 at the time. Maybe your age might add to the cost? My platelets were out of normal range at the time but not excessively high and I was put on Hydroxy and low dose aspirin straight away to control it. Hope you get it sorted and enjoy your trip. Kind regards
