Hi Mysi, , I'm sorry to read of your recent (? ) diagnosis and hope you're in good hands treatment wise. I will turn your question around and say it is they who ought to respect your situation and physically keep away from you. I guess this includes all family and friends just now vaccinated or not if feasible. I don't know how much contact you have with your wider family but hopefully they will realise you are at risk and keep in touch via phone calls, text or Face time. Not always practical I know as I have an elderly Dad to attend most days.

I hope you find a workable solution and your treatment plan goes well.

Mysi, I am also sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and I "second" the comments from Chris a few minutes ago.

All the best to you!

As the others here said, you should stay away. Have these relatives asked to see you?

I think you should ask your doctor for advice. Good luck with this difficult situation & I’m sorry about the effects of your new diagnosis.

I feel for you and know how difficult it is for you having family members that are anti vaccines. I have three sons that are all anti vaccines. Don't believe in masks or testing. I have had to make the very difficult decision of keeping myself safe and not seeing them or my grandchildren.

Just take care of yourself.

Oh you’ve been extremely brave standing by your principles. I applaud you.

I’m so sorry your MPN has progressed. I echo JediReject. I also think KatieWalsh’s comment on seeking advice from the doctor is a sound one.Sending hugs.

Hi. My son and is wife are both anti vax. I won’t see them till we can all be outside in the garden. No one comes in that aren’t vaccinated and at the moment with this omicron, no one at all. My haematologist said to me “ it wouldn’t be a good idea for you to have Covid”. Yesterday both son and daughter in law tested positive for Covid..It has caused friction in the family. My daughter works for the NHS and her husband for a company that helps with testing programs for Covid. In my opinion, you make your decision to look after yourself the way you see fit. As you can see you are not alone. Good luck

Hi,I think, assuming you both want to see each other, that they should agree to have a LFT/PCR test prior. Even if they were vaccinated it wouldn’t mean they couldn’t give you the illness. If they are anti testing as well then my suggestion, hard as it is, would be to avoid contact unless it was outside with social distancing maintained.

Wishing you well .

You are correct it doesn't eliminate the risk of transmission but it does significantly reduce the risk.

Reduces the risk to the person vaccinated. No difference in transmission rates.

But is the viral load transmission less?

This article clarifies re viral load

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

It's a difficult one as it should be personal choice to be vaccinated. I would always question why those with vulnerable relatives would choose not to have it though.

I personally wouldn't ask anyone to have the vaccine or a test as I would expect them to at minimum test before visiting someone vulnerable

Hi Mysi, I am praying for you to have good treatment plan that will work for you and that you are safe fro all non-vaccinated people. Amen

He Mysi, so sorry to hear of the progression of your MF. Get the best team you can to provide for you. I would read the post by JediReject again, I think he said it well.Best to you going forward, and good luck, I think everyone needs a little luck.

Considering your diagnosis, you have a difficult choice. This is not purely a medical question. I do believe that timely testing could be even more relevant than vaccination status since people who are vaccinated are also getting and transmitting covid.

It doesn’t matter to me if they are unvaccinated. They have to have a New (up to 48 hour) PCR TEST and not have been in contact with other unvaccinated in the last few days. 🙂

Yes Anag , , from what I've read the Omicron variant attaches to Covid spike and is hard to detect therefore it doesn't show up on Lateral Flow in it's early stages , not until you're full of it. The PCR test is more reliable by far . It makes a mockery of some of the current procedures in place. I don't necessarily believe all I read but it's reported that half of all 'colds' in major cities are in fact the Omicron variant.

Take care - Chris

We had the first Omikron diagnosis reported in Austria 3 weeks ago and now it’s almost 100% in the new cases since yesterday. It spreads like wildfire. A week ago, our doctor friends in the general hospital here in Vienna said it’s not a wave coming at us this time, it’s a wall. Reading into the situation, though, it’s not as dangerous as delta was. We had a XMas and will have a New Year. All restaurants and clubs close at 22:00. Only those double vaccinated and with PCR are allowed in. 😁 Happy New Year, Chris!

Ha no wonder you put a smiley face Emoji there ! Wishing you a Happy New Year also Anag , , let's hope this wall is poorly constructed and built of breeze blocks, rather than like a Norman rampart.

Guess we will find out as we go into 2022.

The vaccination will lessen the symptoms if you get covid, but is clearly not reducing the spread with omicron. Seems there is some false security in it. If you are concerned, I would make sure those who you want to see have a negative test.
