Hi ChillyAsh, I have ET JAK 2 positive also have an under active Thyroid and take Thyroxin. Diagnosed with ET since 2013 but had under active thyroid a lot longer. I alway make sure I take my Thyroxin first thing in morning before any tea or coffee and eating, then I take my Hydroxycarbamide after breakfast with plenty of water. I also have my thyroid checked every three to six months, and have just had the amount I take changed as it started going overactive, triggering palpitations, and stomach problems. Been put down to 50 mg Daily and 75mg at weekend, which seems to of helped, due to have blood test next month, so will see if this has worked. But apart from that all works well with Hydroxycarbamide, but spacing them out when taking does help.

Hi Chillyash, I take 500g daily, then 1.000mg Fri-sun. Is there a swelling at the back of your knee as it could be a bakers cyst which are very painful.I have been taking Thyroxin for over twenty five years as well, but my Doctors have always kept an eye on it with blood tests, this was one reason that one time they decided to do a full blood count as I was constantly unwell with one thing or another that they were not putting down just to Thyroid problems, this was when I was referred to a Haematologist to have the JAK 2 Mutant test done which came back positive, the rest is history.

Joint pain is very common with ET plus fatigue, but please get the pain checked out behind your knee as about eight years ago I had a similar pain could hardly walk turned out my knee was bone on bone and ended up having a total knee replacement. So

Ask your Doctor if you can get it X-rayed.

Not sure if thats any help, but I do not think that the Thyroxin is interacting with the Hydroxycarbamide well it’s highly unlikely. There are a few people on this forum who take these two drugs daily.

Take care

Jean

The trouble with bakers cysts is that the pain can come and go. So definitely get it checked.Jean

I have Hashimoto since over 40 years. I tried the HU and have neurological problems starting the second day. Stopped immediately. Am on Anagrelide instead. I don’t know if this reaction had anything to do with the thyroid med. but I take bioidentical bovine hormoneninstead of the chemical replacement T4 Thyroxine.

Morning ChillyAsh. I have been on thyroxin over 30 years now and take 125 mg per day. I have been on Hydroxy since August and so far do not seem to have encountered any problems with both meds. I take Thyroxin first thing before breakfast, then Hydroxy after lunch and aspirin before I go to bed. I too have thyroid checked every three months and due for another one in January. It is good you are having it checked now so that it can be readjusted if necessary. Hope all goes well.

Hi ChillyAsh34, I have been taking Hydroxy for just over a year and have not had any changes in thyroid results, have been taking 200thyroxine daily for more than 25 years. Pain and swelling behind the knee can be due to a build up of synovial fluid as a result of arthritis. I have had both hips replaced and need a new knee..ugh!! Generally I feel tired and with generalized pain which many people report on this forum...? just the MPN. Worth checking your B12 and vit D levels. I also take folic acid.Hope your knee is sorted soon,it's a horrible pain.
