just seeing if anyone developed hypothyroidism after starting interferon. I know this can happen and can be a common occurrence with alpha or even beta interferon. I have no symptoms but they found it on my labs. My pcp just started thyroid replacement as this is pretty easy to manage once you get the right dose. I have been so pleased with Besremi. My labs aren’t perfect but close. My oncologist didn’t suggest stopping it just passed the issue to my pcp. Glad I found it before I went to MD Anderson as I know it is likely autoimmune but the treatment doesn’t change. And I know there are others who have been on thyroid medicine before being diagnosed with a MPN. Thanks!

Besremi and thyroid
I developed thyroid issues on Besremi, my tsh went to 68 ! I had to see an endocrinologist and he put me on meds to control it.
Thank you! I have been freaking out that they will take me off of it. And then don’t want that. Mine was 37. I started levothyroxine this morning. You made me day. Thank you so much.
That’s the same medication I’m taking! After two weeks it went to 35, then two weeks later 9.5, then two weeks later 3.5
My mpn specialist said As long as the number goes under 10 you can continue Besremi. I had to stop Besremi for a few weeks but it’s still in your system so it didn’t change my counts
Great. I started 25mcg. I know thyroid can take 6 weeks to change and some dose adjustments maybe necessary but I would think it would respond, I always hovered at a tsh of 5 even before starting. Praying this fixes it which I think it will. And if they increase Besremi they may have to adjust again. My local oncologist wasn’t worried. Just said let’s treat it, thank you so much! I think this will work and will be back on track
Sending wishes your way that this will be easily manageable for you. Good luck at MD Anderson, too! You’re definitely in good hands there.
thank you! Took my first dose this morning! So feeling one step closer!😀 I figure this first year on Besremi will have some “growing” pains. Just working them out as they come. Hopefully once I reach the year mark things will have smoothed out. So grateful my liver, glucose and kidneys are healthy. And feeling good. God has really blessed me. This site has been a lifesaver for me.
I had thyroides problems with Besremi, tsh 10. My hema changed the time no the dose. Once month I am on Besremi now and taking Levotiroxina 37,5. Everything is fine... right now. 25 months.
I have been on Besremi since December 2022. Last month, my thyroid levels increased significantly. I was also referred to my PCP; she put me on a med that seems to have helped. I was definitely feeling lethargic and 'different' with the thyroid issue; since I've been taking the medication, I have felt better. I am happy with Besremi and finally my HCT has reduced under 45 consistently for about the last 3 months.
Hi KLCTJC,
I have been on Besremi since October and my thyroid is absolutely stable. Since my ET diagnosis six years ago I have started on a crusade to heal my body. I have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism since I was a teenager (now 58- Hashimoto getting worse all my life) and managed to go from 200mcg T4 hormone supplementation down to 100 µg in three years! All the many conventional doctors I consulted said it’s not a curable problem and one can manage it with Thyroxine, euthyroid, etc. According to new medical research that is definitely NOT true.
I reduced all inflammation in my body through the autoimmune Paleo diet, and also got rid of all intolerances and silver, that is-mercury, fillings out of my mouth. I also detoxed mercury out of my body, which is also a factor in hypothyroidism. I eat as much organic foods as possible and got rid of all chemicals in my home. No detergents, perfumes, chemical soaps, conventional body creams, make up, toothpaste, etc…..) clean air, clean food, clean water. Nothing bought in plastic.
The most important, three supplements, for the thyroid are iodine, selenium, and vitamin D!!! All three of these must be in OPTIMAL range not just in the normal range (ie Vit D at about 60-80 ,110 is still good and safe, not necessary).!! I reversed the Hashimoto after 25 years of my thyroid worsening year for year, especially after my pregnancy at 38. Despite all my other health problems. My thyroid even grew back 50%. I am sure it will never heal completely because it’s too damaged by my immune system. conventional doctors treat with hormone replacement immediately without looking for a deficit in the three crucial nutrients first!!! We Hashimoto patients have never been given interferon or Besremi until now. My MPN Specialist Said go for it and she’s kept a close look on my thyroid every three months and she doesn’t just do TSH but also T3, T4 and TPO! TSH is just not enough to make a proper diagnosis. TPO shows the level of antibodies attacking the thyroid. The thyroid is quite a complicated organ. Stress is also a huge factor.
in order to slowly reduce my T4 intake, while healing my autoimmune problems, I switched to bio identical hormone T4 from swine, which also has a tiny bit of T3, which is readily available these days from US or Germany. I live in Austria. It is apparently the only way to move toward healing the thyroid. My life is a much different one for the better!
I wish you much success with Besremi (it’s a dream come true for me) and your thyroid. Keep researching and learning and praying.
Hoped to have helped! 🙂 Anag
Totally agree with you. My life goes there plus exercise (check about the importance of the muscle in Hashimoto's) and a strict diet. No toxics even people. Controling thyroides is my strong point. Thanks
yay! You’re speaking my language. Toxic people are a huge burden for our nervous and immune systems. 😉 It’s possible to build a new, clean life and be as healthy as possible to enjoy our lives. 😀
I just received an email for a thyroid summit coming up. I did another two summits 5 years ago: one from the US and one from Germany. The German one was also incredible. In Germany, the health insurance pays for the bioidentical hormone; Austria doesn’t

Thanks, Anag. I am subcrited to this link. We are in the same path 😅 Tell me more things about your thyroides maybe we can exchange some help. You are apeaking the same language too. 😀
I work so hard not to be anxious. Has been a trying 3 years. But I have faith. God has blessed me and to be honest I don’t have time! I need to focus on the good and I have so much to be thankful for. And it is people like y’all that encourage me and help me realize it is going to be ok. My goal in life is to see my daughter grow up. Thank all of you
I think once they replace the hormone I will be back on the road to recovery! Just so glad to hear others stories. It helps me and lets me know I am not alone and this road is the right one for me! Thank you so much
I’m starting to develop hypothyroidism. I am scheduled to see an an endocrinologist soon.
I have always been “subclinical”. So it didn’t surprise me. It is super common and interferon can cause it. In my case I think it just hurried the inevitable. Started medicine. Will probably just take a couple of months to get it lined out.
