Hi all, I was diagnosed with under active thyroid about 8 months ago, and taking
Levothyroxine, I have been trying to lose about a stone in weight but am finding it really difficult, I am doing no carbs diet, and only shift about 1lb a week, if I am lucky. I only eat fresh meat and vegetables, small amount of cheese sometimes, and yoghurt and fruit. Anybody got any tips how I can lose weight please ?
Thanks 💞

Hi Yvette49, you can ask your haematology nurse if she/he can help with dietary advice, and the practice nurses at your GP surgery can also give you advice and help with weight loss. Best wishes, Maz
I lost 50 pounds using an app on my phone called Lose It. Basically just focused on eating healthy foods, plant-rich, cut carbs in half, whole grains only, and burned more calories than consumed (e.g. exercise too).
I have been looking into Qi Gong myself. This process has made me take my health much more seriously. Cut out the junk foods, started eating healthy foods more, and added exercise to my routine. Even took up your endorsement of Zevia (I'm a huge soda fan) as my evening treat.
Qi Gong is a terrific practice both physically and for promoting mindfulness. I learned The Six Healing Sounds, Tai Ji Qi Gong - 10 Forms, Eight Brocades Standing, Yang Style Tai Ji Quan - 24 Postures (Tai Chi), and Da Jaw (Seated meditation - actually a form of Nei Gong). Also recently started a Gung Fu set - (Gong Ji Quen). The practices do really help. The Six Healing Sounds and Tai Ji Qi Gong are a really good place to start.
Glad to hear you like the Zevia. It is also my once/day beverage vice. Certainly a way better choice than most sodas since there are no food colorings or artificial sweeteners, And they taste good.
Yvette you may find that the sugar content in your fruit is significantly hampering your weight loss Fruit is a source of very high sugars. The berries like strawberries or raspberries etc are the lowest sugars and highest antioxidants but should also not be overdone. Try cutting out the fruit or just some small amounts of berries and see if that assists with the weight loss. The idea of calories out equals calories in is not sustained in biochemistry. A pound of sweets behaves chemically very different in the body than a pound of mixed vegetables or meat. Hope this offers some help
Grains may also be adding to the carbs - even whole grains.
I use a free version of the one of the apps which keeps track of the various vitamins, minerals, carbs etc in what you eat. I did it purely to see where the carbs were hiding - and they sure do hide everywhere.
