Covid Antibody study

I have been a participant in UK biobank for many years now and have just received an invitation to join their Covid Antibody study which I have agreed to. Is a simple finger prick test done at home and then you report the results on line. As someone with ET who has had Covid and also my first jab I will be very interested to see my results. I know antibodies are not the whole picture when looking at Covid protection but will be interesting. I will let you know what my results are when I do the test

Janet, dx ET triple negative

My household was invited to take part in COVID Antibody Study by Virus Watch., which involves monthly finger prick at home and sending off small sample of blood. (I have ET on Pegasys), and have had 1 dose of AZ vaccine. Was so relieved to get my first result back that I have at least some antibodies. (Though my hubby couldn’t believe what a wus I was at pricking my finger, when I’m used to injecting myself weekly! 😂).

Have not heard of Virus Watch, will look them up. I am also diabetic so finger prick is fine for me

Good Luck with your testing Janet , , will be interesting to find out your result. . Though the usual caveat applies that we're all different but I would expect you to have antibodies now. Please let us know when you find out. How long do you take part ?

Regards - Chris

Hi Chris, the study is a one off test, so a moment in time really. Yes trials should be before and after vaccine ideally but they have half million people in the uk on their register so I guess that’s a lot of people to get to. I first got involved with them I think between 15 and 20 yrs ago. It is just a research data bank for medical researchers to access.

Hi Janet. I took the UK Biobank test about a week ago. It was easy to do and well organised but despite having my first vaccination in January, I was negative for antibodies. Just hoping that I have some T cells!

There is a lot of information on testing on the Bloodcancer uk site and it says the best antibody test is one looking for ‘antibodies against the spike protein’.

I am so grateful for all the research being done on our behalf and I am lucky that I am retired and able to stay shielding.

I will be really interested in your UK Biobank result.

How fascinating. I would be extremely curious too. Can one enlist?Like you I have had my first AZ vaccine and had Covid (ET Jak2+). In fact my vaccine was due Feb 5th but I had to wait 4 wks following Covid then a cpl of wks after steroid injections. I feel so much safer & happier our in the world knowing I've got antibodies now!
