Antibodies

Hello!

I have ET and I’m on hydroxy and aspirin therapy.

I had my first vaccine in January but I have just had an antibody test which was negative.

Obviously I am incredibly disappointed and I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to develop antibodies after the second vaccine dose or whether I could have a different vaccine?

Hi Glassaddict, Thanks for this message it is very important that we don’t all rush out and have these commercial antibody tests since they may not pick up the antibodies which are triggered by the vaccine.

MPN patients were not well represented in the data discussed today in the article published on the BBC news channel.

Thank you so much for your reply, that makes me feel a lot better.

It was my manager who asked me to have it as they are keen to get me back to work.

Also this was the antibody test issued by the Government Covid website

You may find this interesting and reassuring to read, Im not sure when you had your vaccine, which one you had and when you took the antibody test, but they're suggesting that you need to wait 28 days between the two. We certainly need more research to be undertaken, i'm not sure when and if this will happen, but I for one wish that all people with blood cancers of any kind get tested as part of our haematology appointments, this data can then be pulled quiet easily and quickly across the country, medics get the info they need as do we. The information given to us yesterday certainly isn't helpful, given the misrepresentation and such a small sample size and demographic. We're all left in the dark not sure what to do for the best!

Hi I have read that you need to leave it a certain number of days after and I am sure I saw 8 weeks, and that you should complete the antibody test after both vaccines. It’s worth dropping your gp a line I think and chase up for your second dose. We are obviously also all been asked to shield until end of March and your work really shouldn’t be pressuring you to go before then. It just be so hard for you!

Take care and let me know what your gp says.

Thank you BeckyDing and Trocken

I had the AstraZeneca vaccine on the 25th January and my antibody test 3 days ago

However, looking into a little more carefully, I do believe the antibody tests are classed as either S or N with the S type looking for antibodies to the spike protein suggesting past infection which won’t be there in case of vaccination

I agree that I think we should be tested correctly because it’s the not knowing whether you have any protection that’s so un-nerving

Not what you're looking for?
