Hi all. Just had the dreaded email to say shielding extended to the 31st of March. Partly relieved but desperate to visit family who don't live near. Take care all.
Shielding extended : Hi all. Just had the dreaded... - MPN Voice
Shielding extended
I know, I had mine last week being in Wales, hope it’s not as long as last year. So want to see my sons in England. Fingers crossed, stay safe 😄
Can I ask, who sends you an email about shielding? If it is the government the government here in NZ I am sure wouldnt know about MPN? Let alone me and others that have it!!!
It's a UK thing. But different in all four countries - which is an annoying disconnection as far as I'm concerned.
Yes Matt Hancock from Government
People in the UK who are classified as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable are advised to shield more individually than other lockdown measures which are in place. Easier to go on furlough too as they should not be made to go into work. MPNs have caused disagreement between medics who categorise as CEV and those who don't - which is then unfair on some workers. (Little difference to us retired people!)
Yep I have got mine this evening, now got to shield to the 31st March 😡 just hoping to get second jab before then, could be longer if numbers do not come down which I thought they were.
I thought they were insisting that it was going to be people that have diabetes, people with other underlying health problems and ethnic minorities, just do not seem to get this all now.
Presume it’s to do with these new strains of Covid, now giving me some doubt if the vaccines will work for us, and if so will this be our lives for ever.
Anyone else got any thoughts on this.
Not feeling much like a Superwoman at the moment🦸♀️

Got mine too, Ho Hum!!
I suspect that this means we shouldn't expect much relaxation of lockdown anytime soon.
Still, keep on keeping on - sunlit uplands will follow the rain drenched slough of despond eventually.

I had my email this afternoon.... I was quite shocked.... I have still been going out once a week to get my shopping. I am very careful though.
Stay Safe👍👍
I think govt is doing what it feels right in order to make this the last lockdown. While everyone is in lockdown it's more bearable to shield... it feels harder to me when others ARE meeting family and friends, so it'll be interesting to see how long lockdown continues.
I remind myself shielding is guidance, not mandatory. And on the shielding list there is a huge spectrum of conditions, many of which are more impacted than ours.
I shall continue to avoid crowds, supermarkets etc but will get outside as much as is reasonable and allowed... we need vitamin D, exercise and strong wellbeing. I walk with one other person (I live alone so it's important!) and I know those times in my week really do me a power of good. And I'm in a bubble with family and that's been my lifesaver. That won't change.
We're on the home run, this is a little blip, but we're nearly there my friends!
Xx
Well, I’m now on the list but still no vaccine! Tried the link I was sent and it didn’t work so will phone nhs today. It advises contacting GP- no chance of mine doing anything. Sorry to be cynical but I think they always had this group as CEV but postponed so they could look like they’d hit their mid feb target. Jx
Yes, so did I.. So want to hug my children and grandchildren..😢 But then it will be April and second vaccine and then in May we will be all together again 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Stay safe all of you and think positive
I haven’t heard anything from official sources about shielding being extended but it was referred to on the news yesterday. I seem to be on several different lists as I usually get about three communications about the same thing whenever advice changes. I’m thinking of some novel wallpaper!😂😂
Yes take care too. How are you coping at home? Are you finding you can fill the days ok?Its pleasant to exchange home activities to share new pursuits.
Hi yes had my email too
Like many of you I’ve been nowhere for a year except the GP. To be honest I can’t take it much more being a prisoner it’s wearing me down I went to the shop for the first time today when it was quiet and I was really careful although I did feel rather disorientated after so long at home I was so downhearted at the thought of yet another delay in getting out I had to watch my mums funeral on webcast as she lived 100 miles away
Let’s hope it will change very soon for all of us
Take care everyone. Pippa
Please re-read the shielding letters. They are all advisory - not compulsory.
So you can make your own risk assessments - subject to the compulsory lockdown rules which apply in each part of the UK of course !
So if your family are largely self contained you might feel safe seeing them.If one works in the NHS and one in a supermarket then possibly not!
