Shielding or back to work

Evening all. Just had the latest e mail from the government to say we can go back to work. Finding it hard to take in considering we are now going into the highest tier and the hospitals are seeing a large increase in covid patients. Does anyone feel we can ask to stay shielding or furloughed at no cost to the employer until the vaccine is available to us.

If you don’t feel comfortable going back to work then that’s your choice.... and your employer needs and should support your under the equality act. I hope you get on ok. X

Thanks for that. I did read on the gov site that we could ask to remain furloughed/shielding if we didn't feel safe but the latest e mail doesn't mention it. I will keep you updated with the reply from my employer. They have been really good up to now and there are still quite a few covid cases in the workplace which makes me feel uneasy. Stay safe out there.

That last e-Mail sounded like a complete afterthought. ‘Oh s..t - we must write to that ‘clinically vulnerable’ lot. Don’t know what to suggest, let’s redirect them to the main NHS website.’

It’s certainly at odds with the ‘advice’ being given more widely about Xmas. I’m definitely not heading to the shops in the lead up to Xmas - even if they are open all night. But the seeming lack of support for those working seems absurd.

Hi poly2 I’m going to ask my employer if I can continue to work from home as I have managed to do so for the last month and have only left the house to walk the dog. I no longer feel safe anywhere else. Take care. Mel x
