Good evening hope everyone doing well today

Last Monday I was so happy to get my Oxford vaccine and in only a week I feel a little worried about it with all the fuss in the news I am still so grateful to have had it I feel like it’s one step forward and two steps back think it’s because I had such high hopes of getting out a little in summer Lol .

Best wishes Poppy

Hi Poppy good news still you've had your jab. I said to my beloved as the news broke yesterday or so that it could do more harm than good in that some folk might now not want the Oxford vac especially those in two minds / need convincing and some of those dedicated folk delivering it might feel a tad demoralised having to administer it along with all the flak they'll likely have to field.

I believe the initial study was on a relatively small group of younger bods and I was left thinking it's a bit early to be undermining the vaccine roll out on the strength of that. I read that Covid has potential to mutate 4000 times so future vaccines are bound to need tweaking at that. One of the problems with up to the minute as it happens global reporting. If it were 100 years ago we wouldn't hear about until October if at all 😃.

Maybe the second dose will be slightly different or it might be Pfizer or another one if they decide they can mix vacines. Wait and see.

I'm happy to have had mine with no ill effects. . . .

Regards - Chris

To be honest I was angry as a wasp about it , not the first time I've been jumping about raging at the Covid coverage etc . I like to keep abreast of the news but it's hard to separate out fact from speculation at times.

I say we're lucky to get it so quickly. C

agree, I get the feeling that the media are itching to publish some bad news.

I've no doubt if it was proven that either our vaccines were ineffective or the 12 week delay had gone wrong then there would be lots of high fives and first pumping in the head offices of our newspapers and tv companies.

Agreed, Media have been shockingly bad. Sky’s story re Pfizer Israel one dose only c. 30% efficacy was grossly misleading and inaccurate. Their priority was clearly a headline scoop rather than checking the facts.

I’m struggling to understand how current vaccines are less effective against the SA mutation re stopping moderate disease but still very effective against severe disease. Is this because this mutation is better at getting past our T cells but hits a brick wall against our vaccine fortified immunoglobulin antibodies? Hopefully Hunter reading this?

My husband had his Oxford vaccine three weeks ago . Maybe the second dose maybe tweaked .

It's all confusing you don't know what to do for the best.

I think it's good to have a vaccine as they state it will still save lives.

Suppose only time, data and more trials will determine what's happening .

Take the positive view.

You've had your vaccine - that's steps forward.

There aren't any steps backward, just potential modification to the steps forward.

Hi Poppy.

Since the beginning of lockdown in March I've avoided the news and newspapers and only watch the government updates (until the press come on, with their banal questions) It's really helped to keep me sane during it all.

Hi Poppy I can understand how you feel but you have got to remember how lucky we are that so many people in the UK have been vaccinated and you are still getting a lot more protection than people in other EU Countries. My older sister lives in Ireland, she is 72 and my brother in law is 79 and they have not had theirs yet and when I was talking to her she thinks it will be a long time before they get it because they are not giving Oxford vaccine to the over 70s

Hi Hannah52 that is a sham that Ireland not giving the vaccine to over 65 we are so lucky to get a vaccine and I got mine because of shielding I am just 60 I was very upset yesterday and confused but feel more positive today thanks for your reply.Best wishes Poppy

My brother and sister in law are in their 70s and live in Co Meath. They are still waiting for their vaccinations too. I keep up to date on how the roll out is progressing there by using the RTE News app on my phone/iPad. You may find it helpful.

The vaccine news is even more of an emotional rollercoaster than usual. But I’m very glad Oxford is being so transparent. Ever wondered why the solely commercially-driven Companies are not letting out any information? In fact, I know more about how the Oxford one works than I have ever read about the others or about the workings of the annual flu jab! Am still shielding til after the second jab then look out world here I come, masked and ready for retail therapy. Keep hopeful. 🌈

Hi Eadaoin thats just what I need to get out and see the world again and stop me over thinking things Lol and you are so right at least we know what’s happening with the Oxford vaccine and they are already updating it and all theses scientists working so hard on our behalf is truly wonderful thank you for the reply I shall do the same mask on hand gel with me and off I shall go when I have had my second jab Best wishes Poppy
