Interferon Injection before Covid Vaccine Q;

I am booked for my first Covid vaccine next Saturday. I am due my interferon injection on Wednesday.

Is it ok to have the interferon injection just before the vaccine injection?

Hi ThreeLions,

My Father In Law had the vaccine and they asked him a few questions before he had the jab. One of the questions was 'have you had an injection in the previous 5 days ?'.

He hadn't - but I don't know what they would have said if he had said yes.

So best check it out beforehand.

Hi, yes, when I had my flu jab they asked the same. Also on the booking form they said that you can’t have the vaccine if you’ve had a flu jab in the 7 days leading up. My flu jab was a while ago so that doesn’t come into play but would hate to travel (some distance) to be told I can’t have it because of a recent interferon injection.Thanks for your reply 👍

Hi Threelions,I had my first AstraZeneca vaccination today, my Pegasys injection was due the night before (Friday), so I moved it forwards to Thursday just to give at least 24 hours between them. All is well.

Great, so I should be ok with my peg injection weds and vaccine Saturday.Out of interest did they ask you any qs regarding current medication or up to date blood info?

Hi Mark,I had my temperature taken at the main door of my GP surgery. Hands sanitised then along to nurse and admin assistant. They checked the usual, name, dob, postcode. The nurse asked me if I was well and did I have any allergies. I took the opportunity of explaining Pegasys injections into the stomach, when my last injection was. She did ask if my medical team had agreed for me to go ahead with the Covid vaccination, I affirmed that it was ok, I have not been given any advice contrary to this.

I do take my prescription list with Pegasys and aspirin doses on it and an MPN card along in my efforts to ‘be prepared’. Was given a little jab and a card with AstraZenica batch numbers on it with my appointment dates to carry in your wallet. Reassurance was given with the help that would be available should I have any concerns or difficulties.

Then it was back out in the snow to sit in the car for fifteen mins (any problems and you just toot your horn.

Home for coffee and cake, obviously.

Congrats on your vaccine! Hope it all went well for you.

Not relevant to you now, but I asked my MPN specialist this question and the answer may be helpful to anyone finding this thread on a search.

Advice I was given is that there’s no issue taking interferon & vaccine together, but wise to leave 48 hours between them to ensure any potential vaccine side effects aren’t masked by interferon side effects. If that means delaying interferon by a day that’s fine to do (in my case anyway!)
