I was wondering if it’s ok to have your wisdom teeth pulled when you have ET and are taking Hydrea?

Thank you

Hi, you need to discuss this with your dentist and your haematologist for advice about your Hydrea. Best wishes, Maz

I don't think Hydrea is a problem, but if you are on blood thinners or Aspirin you should stop a day before and tell your dentist. I have to do this as I have wobbly back teeth which need to be removed.

Hello 0224, I have just had two very large back teeth extracted , but before my dentist would do the work, he got in touch with my Haematologist in Birmingham ( I live in Guernsey ) and asked what he had to watch out for and what action to take (if necessary) they got back to him within two hours which shocked my dentist and pleased him as well , but they told him as my recent blood tests were ok, all I had to do was stop the Hydroxycarbamide three days before the procedure and wait for four days after before resuming the Hydroxy. No mention was made about the blood thinners I am on. You might be different, so check first with your dentist and ask what he needs to know and name your Haematologist. Hope this helps . PS they found I have no upper wisdom teeth, now that explains a lot !

You definitely need to stop the blood thinners before this or any other surgery. Most recommend 1 week before. You may need to d/c for a few days after as well depending on how much you are bleeding post-op. My dentist absolutely did warn me about doing this prior to invasive procedures since it is SOP for anyone on aspirin or other thinners.

I expect your body had the "wisdom" to not grow them in the first place. Lucky you!

Update on tooth removal. Didn't need to stop blood thinners. Had the teeth removed , very sore, but there wasn't much bleeding and didn't even need to replace the wad's after a couple of hours biting down on the ones my dentist put in, so very lucky I think . Wont be having a replacement as he quoted it could cost up to £17,000 , after I stopped laughing I told him that won't be happening .

Glad to hear it went well. Surprised no d/c the blood thinners, but all is well that ends well. Regarding the replacement cost 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
