Travel to Denmark?

Hi I was wondering if anyone else since shielding has been paused have considered travelling yet or been on any foreign trips?

I normally go to a trade show in Copenhagen each year which got moved back to September this year because of covid.

I have heard that when you get back to Heathrow it’s is the usual scrum to get through passport control and poorly maintained social distancing.

It does look like cases are now rising in Copenhagen like most places so they have now introduced mask wearing where they had been more relaxed.

I had a look at the danish equivalent to the shielding list and interestingly blood cancers are not on it!

It would be great to hear from anyone who has travelled or thinking about travelling soon.

Hi l have not traveled overseas since March but l have had a few breaks in different parts of Germany. Most people take it seriously with masks etc l would assume Danes would be the same. I think social distancing is difficult in many situations like airports public transport planes but so far it seems to work. I have not heard of mass infections on flights but who knows ? Shielding at UK levels l think was mainly a British and Irish approach - here we had vulnerable groups identified and the only guidance was focused on using self judgement.

I normally travel a lot mainly to East Asia which is now largely closed to overseas visitors

But l personally would travel if l deem It to be as safe as it can be in a pandemic. We have no idea when this will all end WHO today said possibly two more years. Let’s hope that’s wrong.

Hi thanks for your reply, yeah I saw that about 2 years so we can’t put everything on hold.

Hey jonnymitts!! Denmark sounds great but it’s the plane I would be concerned about. Your in a confined space where the same air is being circulated constantly and distancing has to be impossible. You should really look into that. Sorry I know I’m sounding negative but the concerns unfortunately real. All the best to you.

Actually the plane is the bit I’m least worried about as I hear the air is filtered regularly. Though yes being close to people is a bit tricky though masks are mandatory and I’m assuming planes aren’t that full yet so hopefully get space around you. I also have quite a lot of air miles so I could use them for a club seat so I wouldn’t have anyone right next to me which would help with spacing.

Only you can decide, tge UK government is changing whoch countries are on the safe list quite quickly so you have the risk of being there & then having to self isolate for 2 weeks when you return. Presumably as it's a work thing your work would pay you for the 2 weeks but employers do not have to & it's not covered by sick leave. Insurance is tightening up, some is with drawing if things change whioe you are travelling & you can't claim a refund on anything booked since March if it's cancelled or changed due to Covid.

I'd check your insurance, leave it to the last possible moment to book if you can. Check what the trade show has in place for Covid safety, cleaning stations, reduced capacity etc.... Lots of similar things here aren't happening this year at all so it might get postponed again yet, particularly if they don't think people will attend. It might actually be a bit of a waste of your time if it's going to be poorly attended (although it might be more safe)

I think my concern would be more the fact that lots of people from different countries are heading to the show. What is Denmarks rules on travellers from countries with increased infection rates?

If you do decide to go, enjoy x

Yeah I think I’m going to leave it to last minute and see if flights are cheap as still lots of availability and I can keep an eye on the cases and also the quarantine country list here. I also think probably not essential travel though also fancied a break from being stuck at home for so long.

I was supposed to start treatment back in March which has been put on hold until September. So I wanted one last trip before treatment started but maybe a more relaxing one would be better at this time.

Sounds like a plan and yeah have a relaxing trip that's not work related. Hubby is looking at treatment starting in the next couple of months as well so completely understand. Difficult to plan too far in advance with it all atm. We've got things still booked for November in the UK but waiting on whether they get cancelled.... can't see full capacity music events happening even in November so need to rethink hubbies birthday celebrations. Looking more like a takeaway at home with a film instead!

I think with treatment if it starts they said I would be having more regular tests until they get the dose right.

So I am very tempted to get away for a few days to relax before treatment starts. Though probably still a good chance treatment might get postponed again.

Also missing live music as well, though you can’t beat a good take away 👌🏼

Hi I live in London and have ET, though I have a feeling the Danes would have a very good health system because of the high taxes.

I went to Portugal for 2 weeks at the start of August and am now quarantining. Although quarantine is no longer required for those arriving from yesterday... It all went smoothly. The airports were less busy than normal, the planes arrived early on the way there and back. Everyone wears masks at the airport and plane. On the way there we had to queue to dispatch the luggage at Heathrow and social distancing is not perfect at that point, I had to ask people behind me to keep their distance. But aside that it was ok. On the way back we breezed through the automatic passport control with no queues at all. The plane was busy both ways, no social distancing in the seating arrangements. But people did not move around the corridors and it was short trip. The holiday was fab, felt very safe in Portugal where mask wearing is the norm. I am glad I went! Good luck with your trip.

I think Portugal would be my relax option v work option and I have a place I go to in Olhao which has availability and very relaxing so now I need quarantining at the moment makes it look very attractive as a mini break!

Sounds lovely! Hope you get to go to Olhão and Copenhagen. Even with having to quarantine it was worthwhile for me to go: I am lucky I can work from home so it is not too much of a problem. I am very glad they finally added Portugal to the air corridor list, it was absurd to be left out, very low infections out there and people were really careful everywhere I went. We have to get used to living with this virus as it looks like it will be around for a long time. As long as we take all the precautions the risk is low: I wore disposable gloves and mask (which they advise on the plane to discard after every 4 hours) while travelling and lots of hand sanitising! Kept away from people on the terminal as much as possible. And sat on a window seat on the plane to avoid people on the corridors, but there was no need as people mostly stayed on their seats, and queuing to the loo was not permitted. Best of luck with your travels! If you can fly club that makes a difference as seats were spaced out there. Xxx

I personally haven’t travelled, however my husband has had to for work, the planes are getting busier and he no longer feels safe knowing that he’s coming home to us, the flights are over booked as a lot are being cancelled so, social distancing isn’t adhered too, he flew back from Ireland last on a plane that was full, food and drink is being served and the two people either side of him both removed masks to eat and drink throughout the 40 min flight, passengers are then getting up to stand in the isles before getting off! His advise would be to avoid if it isn’t necessary!

He too is due to fly to Denmark on Tuesday, he was contacted by he business he is due to go to and has been advised that his visit may be cancelled as their levels are rising and quarantine measures are likely to be put in place, there threshold levels are very close but figures in Denmark are only published on a Thursday. He’s waiting to find out more tomorrow. If you can avoid it may be worth it!

Thanks for the great update! I had heard BA flights were boarding row number from the back and when you land you have to stay seated until they call your row number so that sounded good none of that standing in the aisle.

I think I will put CPH on hold for a bit as I just got this from my danish friend in CPH!

Hey The Corona is spreading super fast everyday in DK especially in Cph. - getting red zone. So if I was u; stay away until things are getting normalized again.

That’s the same advice my husband has been given! Definitely worth putting it on hold till next year, I love a good danish exhibition they know how to do it in style!

Hi. Read your post saying you’re putting that trip on hold but wanted to comment in case someone else is considering flying or you think of flying someplace else. I live in the USA which we all know is abysmal in terms of the Covid issue. (Won’t discuss all the rest.). But even in the beginning, when infection rates were low, medical experts from our top agencies said not to fly unless you absolutely have to because it’s so dangerous. And that’s even with the improved air filtration that some planes say they have. The top epidemiologists say flying is one of the most dangerous activities because the virus is spread so easily on planes & in the airport. I only know 1 person who was willing to fly. Everyone else either drove or cancelled/postponed their trips. Please don’t dismiss this because I’m in the USA, but remember, as I said above, all of this advice was before our infection rates got bad. And it never changed. Please stay safe. Thanks. Katie

I am usually in Belgium at this time having already had one visit in spring.

I have a mobile home in Flanders near a lake. I have been unable to go this year whilst shielding. The travel is taxi, train, Eurostar, train and bus. This drains me without extra covid security and quarantine worries. I am hoping next year I will be able to go as I miss it so much.
