HRT and Peg Interferon

hi

I have PV diagnosed 7 years ago and started 2 months ago on Peg Interferon 90mcg

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts or experience of being on HRT whilst taking interferon ?

I have a heavy symptom burden which my current haem consultant feels maybe post menopause related ie hormones

Thanks

Wishing everyone a peaceful festive period.

Hhrt patches and creams are fine. Though it may take a letter from heamo before gp will prescribe hrt. It did in my case, I am waiting to hear back if I can take Utrogestan progesterone tablets then I can switch from patches to those and oestrogel as the patches don't seem to want to stick on.

thanks for replying. We’re there any side effects or problems.

Mostly did it help with symptoms ie flushes, sleep, brain fog or anything else ?

First lot of patches gave me tender boobs, but they were only estrogen you need progesterone too. Much better with those. I think they help with sweats and brain fog. I started hrt at 61 wish I had done so much earlier but my gp wouldn't prescribe it and put note on record so other GPS in practise wouldn't. Finally got a gp who was advocate for hrt.

thanks. As I’m on interferon now both my gp and haem are behind it.

hi

I was advised by my heamo that we can take the Utrogestan progesterone as well as gels and patches and got a letter and my gp is still reluctant but post covid my peri menopause symptoms have now become debilitating which studies are showing that covid can cause hormones levels to deplete further and cause havoc with our endocrine system-I have now booked to pay privately to see a menopause specialist through my work to get sorted as looks like this is the only way we can get anything done in the UK at the moment with the NHS on its knees - I am also going to get my testosterone levels checked too as this also has a huge effect - keep pushing and good luck 🤞

I take peg Inteferon and am on HRT (oestrogen patches and utrogestan pills). In my case my GP wanted to prescribe them and checked with my Haem first who said she was happy.

Sure thing. No problems or side effects for me and I just remind my docs every time any doses/meds are changed in case they want to reassess. So far all good and the HRT definitely helped with symptoms.

I am waiting for haem to write back to gp about Utrogestan so I can switch to that and oestrogel as finding the patches not sticking very well.
