Probably unrelated...stomach pains after running?

PV, JAK2+

After running a good distance - at least 4 or 5 miles, within an hour or so after finishing I develop serious lower stomach cramps. Probably dehydration and unrelated to the PV, but certainly this new to me.

Anyone deal with this?

Hi JT

I might of had the same problem and I had discovered it was from having to much fibre in my diet ?

It might be worth having a look at what your eating, I cut back on things like pasta, brown bread and porridge and this worked

Might be worth a try ??

Stay safe

Could well be dehydration with that much exertion and not enough fluid intake. Those of us with PV do not tolerate dehydrations well, especially if on meds like hydroxyurea. Would also pay attention to electrolyte balance during high levels of exertion.

Good on you for running 5 miles! Maybe next try a bit more fluid, including some sugar-free electrolyte infused fluids as well as plain old water.

Thanks- good suggestions. My primary doctor thinks it may in fact be an abdominal migraine...turns out thats a thing! Given my long history with brain migraines it could be related. He suggested hydration, daily magnesium and excedrin when it strikes.

Big time yes to the magnesium. I take daily mag supplements due to moderate mag deficiency (likely due to taking Nexium). Suggest paying attention to all of the electrolytes.

Keep running! I can't due to blown out knee. Limited to walking. Hopefully will get it fixed and get back to more serious cardio.

Yeah I already gave up weightlifting due to the presence of a PFO and a recent TIA I had....so giving up running would be bummer....the world is trying to tell me to stop exercising...but I cant stop!

My solution is to exercise differently. Stop exercising = stop living the life I want to live. I let it go too long. Had to lose 60 pounds. Lost it then gained 12 back after major surgery. Want to get back down to ideal weight. I feel better lighter and in better shape. I will find ways to make this happen. Yoda says "There is no try. There is do." WIll apply this to exercising!

I also fast. Mon-Fri I eat only a protein bar mid-day and dinner. Sat and Sun I'll have three meals. In addition, I eat no red meat, no sugar or refined carb, and no cheese.

I have also modified diet. Loosely follow a Mediterranean - anti-inflammatory diet. Heavy on plant-based foods. Lighter on all meats. Had to up red meat a bit when I got too iron deficient, but switching back to more white meats and fish. Only eat whole grains. Refined carb is occasional treat. Likewise with sugar. Skip lunch every day. Just eat breakfast and dinner. Huge emphasis on avoiding ALL processed foods. No hormones, pesticides, xenoestrogens, antibiotics, etc. SOme of the garbage in the food chain is terrible for you!

SO all the best yo you and your running. BTW - I have been practicing Qigong. It is a great way to both get exercise and promote mindfulness. Has done me a lot of good.
