increase in itchy after 5yrs

Hi, I’m on two different anti histamines from my GP. Using cooler water rather than hot is better, make sure you are well hydrated too. I find if I keep my skin well moisturised that helps a lot - Aveeno is my favourite brand at the moment along with Olay shower cream.
Hope that helps you, it really is horrible when you’re really itchy.
Kindest regards Aime xx😺😺
I love aveeno too Aime!
Yes 2 different antihistamines. I also use double base shower gel. I need heat to lesson my itch response (I seem to be unusual).
I’ve also had pv for 5 years have more itching than usual during the cold weather. Washing makes it worse use lots of moisturiser have found keeping warm and lots of layers of thin clothing helps
Hi, I find that baths with lots of epsom salts/dead sea salts help me as well as epsom salts shower gel for showers, with magnesium body lotion afterwards, if necessary. I have some itching without contact with water (for example when I get dressed) but I haven't figured out how to deal with that, except that when it was really bad on a couple of occasions, I sat in a bath with a little water and lots of salts to cover my legs (where the itching was worst). The itching disappeared after a couple of minutes. X
It is probably a change in temperature setting off your itching, especially if bare skin is exposed (showering, getting into bed, going to the bathroom etc). I agree with all the suggestions to shower in cool water for the quickest time possible using Double Base or similar, then I get dressed under the bed clothes. Moisturise well with a scent free emollient.
It is probably worth getting your blood counts checked as my itching is definitely worse when my counts are higher. I went through a ton of options from antihistamines, Amyltriptyline to steroids. The steroids were the only thing that made a difference for me. But long-term use is not recommended and I'm dreading coming off them soon.
Hope you find some relief, Amanda

Hi Diana
The “itchies” can be a real Nusiance. I get very itchy on the tops of both of my arms. E45 Itch Relief works well for me as a cream to rub in and soothe. I also use it in the shower instead of gel or soap.
Warm regards
Hi, I don't know if regular Claritin allergy pills are OTC in the UK, but that is what I take here to keep my maddeningly itchy skin at bay. For me just taking 1 or 2 a week keeps the itchiness under control. In the winter I also wear a man’s cotton undershirt under all my regular tops because just the breeze of cool air on my bare skin can sometimes trigger the itch. And unlike many allergy pills, Claritin doesn’t have anything in it to make you drowsy. Good luck.
Thanks for the tips. i will look into the claritin, regards D
