Interferon is known to cause thyroid problems in some people. Figures vary and the type of interferon may be a factor but most reports suggest 1 -10% of people on interferon may be affected by hypothroidism or hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is more common. The size of effect on the thyroid can vary from person to person, from minor through to severe.
You need to discuss this with your doctor to decide what additional monitoring is needed and whether you need any changes to your medication. Its worth keeping a diary to keep track of any symptoms.
I just had my thyroid level checked due to fatigue. It was indeed elevated. Have been on the Peg for around a year and a half. My doctor did not suggest stopping my interferon at all. He is monitoring right now. He offered me a drug that would address the level and perhaps help with the fatigue. I didn't even get into discussing it with him because frankly, I just don't want more meds. I mean, I am tired but coping as I guess we all are.
