Hi

What’s everyone’s thoughts on travelling abroad? Due to go to Bulgaria Saturday, at the moment it’s safe to travel there but just worried about crowds at airport and being on plane with having ET Jak pos, with having low immune system.

I, myself, wouldn't travel abroad at the moment but it has to be your choice. Please make sure you have travel insurance and you may want to phone your travel insurance provider for information,

I am In Athens for a few days visiting friends. The flight was almost full but it felt a little tense. Some were well prepared with masks and rubber gloves etc. Athens is not too busy but l managed to buy hand sanitizer in the supermarket

They have loo roll too

My issue would be health coverage and quality of services if needed

Hi I have tickets to go to Bulgaria as well next week but just been to my haematology appointment and the doctor advised me not to travel as I may be able to go but don’t know when will be able to come back (they need to monitor my platelets at the moment)If you are stable on medication and have enough to take with you ..every one is different

Your right everyone is different

It’s a difficult question to answer for that reason

Myself, I wouldn’t. Why take the risk? As Welbi said in reply, , you might not be able to get back easily if situation gets worse.

I live in Germany corona numbers today are 2576 in Greece it’s 117

More likely Greece will stop Germans entering.

I take as many precautions as is possible

I avoid crowds handwash etc

I also have state travel health cover in addition to EU cover

l am more likely at this time to get it in Germany with just day to day interactions.

But your right l would not for example go to Italy or Spain as numbers are very high

I wouldn’t travel myself but I suffer from crippling anxiety which is made worse by all of this. I’m doing all the hygiene stuff and social distancing as much as I can. I guess only you can make the decision.

Travel when it's necessary, not for vacations.

I wouldn't travel myself, but it's individual. To me I think the current situation seems there are more risk on the plane, as there are no escape if anything happens, I personal would not take the risk.

The issue for me about travelling now is not so much the getting there but the risk of not getting back! Or getting sick whilst away and then facing issues of management / quarantine / self isolation etc.

The situation is so volatile at the moment and seems to change daily. We were in Barcelona last week. I’m not so sure whether I’d travel again now. I’m even concerned (for the reasons above) about what happens if one of the family members gets sick while travelling around the UK for work etc.

The fact I have PV and am on hydroxy is not really going to make me any more at risk than the next person. Much more concerned about other half who has compromised lung function.

We've been booked for a long time to go to Morocco next week. I am taking the advice of another writer on here - to take Vicks First Defence, which helps subdue viruses. Last time I went I got terrible flu but probably took it with me or caught it on the plane. Will try to follow all the advice we're being given. I'm not on medication apart from aspirin so don't consider myself more at risk than other 75-year olds, and Morocco is virtually clear of the virus. Just hope they let us Brits in to the country!

Again like others have said it’s your choice . I am away at the moment in Grenada .. the travelling through Heathrow then Gatwick was worrying but I was very aware of those around me and tried not to touch anything like stair rails etc.. The worry like others say is if you go into quarantine. Apparently here 3 ladies from Italy arrived (no symptoms) and were immediately sent into quarantine for a week ( nobody knows where) and then sent home. My worry is did I bring enough meds I’m here for 14days brought enough for 21 . On HU and others and being on small island not sure can get all I would need . I live in a small village in Scotland and just heard they have 2 positive people there, over here maybe 1 in the whole island I must admit the worry of travelling has been the worst part , I’m fine at the moment and hope to stay that way but looking forward to getting home to my house and what I know .. If you are a worrier think twice about going If not so much enjoy but be aware of everything around you and take plenty meds if on them , Take care

Gosh this seems such a long time ago now. I got home safely, though had to miss a visit to grandson(in England) on return to Scotland (Deeside) . The trip back was awful, not helped by having to take connections from Gatwick to Heathrow to get back to Aberdeen. Feel lucky to be home and have kept safe in village , with fantastic village shop’s deliveries to keep me going.. Hope you are safe . Sandra

Thanks Sandra for your reply. I bet Grenada seems a far off distant memory! I am very new to this ‘forum’ things and am normally a very private person but have learned a lot from these people.

I have been shielding and was furloughed from work but have started working from home for past 3 weeks so time is passing much quicker. I am very lucky because of our location I can walk for miles in the hills and countryside away from people 🐾😀

Hi, yes I feel very lucky as well . Looking over the hills from my lounge but in a village with all the amenities, and walks along the river or hills on my doorstep..

The forum is great for information, as much or as little as you need and like you I’m quite private and read more on here than post or comment. Hope you have a nice day , not too busy and keep safe .

Up until last night when I found out the virus was 25 miles away I was blasé not so much now!! I worry about my children’s jobs and the knock on affect on the economy.

Will you manage to enjoy yourself whilst away? Take all your spare meds with you and follow government guide lines on sanitation if you choose to go. It could be months before this is all over.

Good luck x

Yes we have the virus a couple of miles away. Two surgeries are closed, but GP will give you advice on the phone.

It’s all a bit real now. Personally I am self isolating, rather be safe than sorry...

Keep safe all

We, Austria, just locked down and closed our boarders as has Italy, Switzerland, Slovakia, Check Republic. More will probably follow. Careful you don’t get stuck.

I don't see anything wrong with traveling now. You can get infected with the coronavirus anywhere and under any circumstances. The virus is the same everywhere, and it all depends personally on your security measures. Just keep your distance and use a mask. A week ago, I came to the USA for a trip. Despite the airport, constant travel, and so on, I am still healthy. By the way, there is one resource travelsafe-abroad.com/unite... where you can find more about the safety of your destination. It is even great to travel because there are no crowds of tourists and every hotel or restaurant fights for visitors.
