Hi maz, is this new therapy for mpns and does it target the jak2?

Must say since my husband

Went on ruxolitanib it has eased his symptoms he does still get tired but he has a demanding job.

We are always hopeful for a cure one day .

I’d be happy to trial that one! The new scientific advances are offering great hope to us all. That is why people who are receiving MPN diagnosis now should read very little into statistics regarding MPN survival as things appear to be changing rapidly. When I was diagnosed with ET 26 years ago my GP told me that the disease was not in the average medical textbook and he had had to search for information. The internet was still in its infancy then so I couldn’t read anything to scare myself as is so often the case nowadays with Dr Google. I have now progressed to MF but I’m still alive so there is always hope!

I’m worried about the progression to MF or Leukemia I’ve had virtually everything linked to PV and ET I started with an enlarged liver and spleen hundreds of tests leading to a splenectomy in 2014 also my BM tests in 2013/14 was negative but after my platelets going through the roof after my splenectomy I had a angina attack then a Haematoma and in 2015 told I was Jak2 positive and started on hydroxycarbamide and asprin along with other medication

I then had a haemateura and DVT and a TIA even on 1500 mg daily of hydroxycarbamide

Haematolygist said they’d never seen a clinical progression like it

You have certainly been through the mill but as you have not yet progressed to MF you might still not do so. There is so much more hope for MF treatment now so don’t spend too much time worrying. Just live one day at a time and enjoy every minute. Very best wishes

How many years after ET you progressed to MF? While on ET phase, what was your platelet count? Did you have a SCT?

Hi Phil, I wonder whether it will stop the mutated gene producing these effects on the blood. I suppose it would be good as a temporary measure.

Hi Maggie the way I’ve read it it kills off the cancer fingers crossed on this becoming available soon here

We'll all have to ask our haematologists about it. My next appointment isn't until April. It might help some of us. I've only seen that it can help blood cancer among others, but that depends on what type, surely. As I understand it, the cancer is not in the blood, so much as in the bone marrow and the bone marrow is responding to messages coming from elsewhere in the body.

There is a brilliant article in The Mail today., a man who has survived a string of cancers. He seems to have super charges T-cells. Well worth a read. Lots of research going on. There is hope for the future.
