Shower difficulties

I find warm water on my skin really painful. I lower the shower temp down as low as it'll go, but the water still feels like red hot needles. I have to stand away from the water flow and just rinse in shortbursts. Anyone else experience this

Hi Lynnieb,

There is a condition called Aquagenic Pruritus associated with MPNs. I was under the impression the water caused itching, but maybe it causes pain too.

If you type the term in the search box some posts should come up discussing it. It’s worth checking it out.

I have had the needles feeling from shower water along with burning sensations on the skin like my skin was severely scraped. That feeling occurs in different spots all over my body along with aquatic pruitis after I get out of the shower and my skin starts to cool. My skin never stops itching, burning, or doing something to aggravate me except when I sleep. I dont know what I'd do if it kept me up all night too. I've had skin sensitivities my whole life so throwing PV on top of it is quite the curse.

The aqua puritis and burning sensation when showering were my worst symptoms. I was at the point of self harming as I would use a hard brush on my skin although this made it worse. I have now changed my routine and only bath in cool water as I feel the still water better. I have also invested in a bidet which has been worth every penny. You may also find drying and dressing straight away helps. Good luck.
