Is taking Hydroxy before bed good or bad?

I read here that some people take their hydroxy at night to lessen the side effects by sleeping through them and thought I'd try it. Can't really tell any difference yet but a thought occurred to me that by taking it before you sleep the medication stays in your system longer especially the bladder as you are not drinking water or moving around much to circulate it.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi I think so too. Better take it at noon after lunch. No side effects except for fatigue after a few months.

Good thought. I take it at night. U also drink through night. If I’ve managed to sleep well then as soon as I wake up I down a bottle of water. I was ok initially taking hydroxi during the day. On the advice of my consultant I changed to the night. Not sure if I could swap back now because my meds have almost tripled.

I used to take mine at night time but found myself dehydrated and had problems with very dry eyes in the mornings so switched back to daytime.

I have always taken mine at night and suffered no side effects. Took a dose in the day recently but suffered slight nausea for a couple of hours, so back to Plan A for me...

Hi h2ogal

I take my hydroxy with my evening meal, at about 6 pm. I had side effects in the early days after my diagnosis but not now. It is difficult to know whether side effects are the condition, the medication or in my case the ageing process. I have retired from work and when I had side effects, I got into the habit of completing my many activities and hobbies during the day as I felt more tired as the day progressed. For the most part, I have continued with that and rarely have late nights out of the house now. You are very unlikely to see me down at the disco in the early morning hours anymore. I am more likely to be thinking towards jim-jams time at about 10 pm. My dosage has been increased and apart from being low in iron, I feel fine. Best wishes

You sound just like me. Take my Hydroxy at 8 pm. Then it’s relax time. I have my good days. When I feel I dont have a care in the world and feel 40. But I’m careful not to push myself too hard as I know the fatigue with medication and this illness plus my iron. Plus being at my golden years. I have my life at a slower pace. I’ve music in my kitchen and friends round now. Do go local bar now and again. But be careful I have water and maybe a few drinks. My daughter lives with me she has skitzophrenia she’s only 39. She has good days so it works out we both get joy out of balancing our lives.

I take mine in the evening. I don’t take them on empty stomach.

I don’t take unless I’ve eaten. I used to take Hydroxy in morning first thing before food. But could actually feel the tablets going down. Then peculiar small cramps in my left side. Mind you now I’ve been on this chemo 9 months now. Can’t believe it scares me a but better than having platelets high.

I take mine first thing before breakfast, 2 x 500mg Monday to Friday, 3 x 500mg on a weekend with no side effects, just steady blood results, Took many months to get the balance right but steady away now, fatigue only occurs after 3 or 4 hours physical work and then, I rest as I need to and recover within an hour or two, hope this helps?
