I have had mouth ulcers over a month (white blister on right side of the tongue and marks inside cheek). Stopped peg interferon 45 dosage so my mouth can heal recently Last Tuesday suppose to be my day to inject myself. 4 weeks break. How long can it take to heal my mouth? Right now using cordyol toothpaste and mouthwash from haemotogist and salt water and bongela I am using since last Tuesday. Nothing seems to work. See my Hematologist in 3 weeks. I bought zinc tablets and lysine tablets starting to take. I was told he will discuss going on lower dosage 22 mcg because of my ulcers when I go for my next appointment.

Are you sure they are ulcers? You should notice an improvement within a week so if they're not healing I'd go to your GP.
Please see your dentist and make them aware of the meds you are on. Dentists are quite familiar with mouth sore treatments
Hey Zar77...
Sorry to hear that you are struggling w/ mouth ulcers... I still have a mark on the inside of my mouth where an ulcer developed when I was taking HU, and it has never really healed properly either...
Hopefully, you will have it all sorted soon...
However, I am just a tad curious, did you ever take HU?

Hi no. I started my peg interferon 2nd month of injection only used 3 out of the 4. Then I had to stop.
Hey again...
Thanks for your reply...
I guess that helps to prove that mouth ulcers can be caused biologically, and not always as a direct response to a medication. That is a point really worth mentioning here too...
Once again Zar77... I do hope that you find a way to have it sorted sooner rather than later, as I know only too well just how discomfiting mouth ulcers are ...
Best wishes
Steven
Hi, I have been on Pegasys for almost 4 years now, for PV, and also developed a very sore mouth, very persistent. My dentist diagnosed oral lichen planus, a chronic inflammatory condition of the mucous membranes in the mouth. It causes mouth sores, redness, and some typical white lacy patches. It is not an uncommon condition and can be brought about by medication, like interferon. He referred me to an oral medicine specialist and they gave me a steroid mouthwash that helps a lot, reducing the soreness substantially and healing the open sores. I continue with Pegasys and keep the lichen planus under control with the steroid mouthwash whenever it flares up. I suggest you have a check up with your dentist just in case. Susana x
Thanks for your reply. I will see my dentist next week I will ask him about that mouth wash for the condition.
Not to panic you. I had one on the side of my tongue which required removing surgically. A mouth guard might help it heal (protection from your teeth).
