High LDH

Hi all, I’m trying not to freak out on this Christmas Eve. I have Myelofibrisis for the last 5 years. I’m on wait and watch with aspirin. I just had labs done which show my LDH is 2450. I see on previous labs 2 years ago it was 780. From what I’m reading that sounds like leukemia. Does anyone have it that high ?

I know its not easy, but try not to panic because when you hear about raised LDH you only hear about the really serious stuff and not much about the less serious stuff. Its like anything you try to research there is always loads & loads of causes but the ones that keep coming up is the serious stuff. LDH is released during all sorts tissue damage, it means something needs checking but it doesn't have to be anything as serious as leukaemia, there are loads of other reasons. I've been told it looks like I have a secondary cancer, I have been told this twice, it turned out ok - Now it has happened again and I have to wait till mid- January to wait for the results for a third time. I don't want to waste too much energy on what ifs? anymore I would urge you to try as well. Try to have a good Christmas - Raphael

Thank you Raphael, I appreciate your words. I hope all goes well with you.

Hello CeeCee, I had a high LDH (2500) back in October but my local consultant didn't mention it until my copy of the letter arrived. I, like you, immediately consulted Dr Google to give myself a good scare and dose of worry! Anyway, I then saw my Consultant at Guys in December and he explained that it is generally higher in MF patients and that the simple act of drawing the blood sample can sometimes give a false high. My levels were showing 1000 at this point and he wasn't concerned, so hopefully yours will return to normal next time around, but in the meantime try not to worry, I know that's hard! Hope you're having a great Christmas and best wishes for a healthy and happy New year x
