Headaches

Hi all

Just wondering if anybody has any advice on how to manage headaches better? I'm currently on pegasys and the headaches the day after injecting are very difficult to manage! Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sheila

Hi, I occasionally get this the day after and take paracetamol which helps. Best wishes, Frances.

Thanks Frances. Paracetamol doesn't really help for me! But thanks for the info.

Hi Sheila, there could be many reasons for this. The flu like symptoms I used to have included a headache. I also took paracetamol and kept well hydrated and had an easy day. Could you keep a diary of length of headache time, how bad, what part of your poor head hurts? It might show a pattern or give you insight into it. Hope it eases as you get more used to it. Mairead

Although not on Pegasys, also get the most horrendous headaches from taking Anagrelide....basically, think we have to accept that these drugs are a bit toxic to say the least, and we have to expect those side effects. Like you, I don't find paracetamol helps at all, but drinking as much water through the day and before going to bed does alleviate heads a bit...wishing you well and wishing you to lose those headaches, Tinkerbell.

Thank you tinkerbell. Yes maybe just part of it all but I just find them extremely draining and frustrating when paracetamol doesn't work

Hi

I think the main key is keeping hydrated but I'm not naturally a pill-popper but I do submit for the time of injection. I took advice from another on this site and take 2 paracetamol half an hour before and a Sleep Aid half an hour after to go to bed.

It's amazing the difference that water makes and I've recently discovered Coconut Water which seems to rehydrate me a lot quicker. The headaches I get with this are really severe. that and the muscle and joint pain, night-sweats and sleeplessness make this an ordeal at times but hey-ho, my platelets are normal!!!!! All the best Penelope

Hi Penelope,

Thank you for the advice. Yes my platelets are on the way down. From 1.8 down to 500 at last count and that's only after 22 weeks of interferon. I'll try drinking the extra fluids and see if that helps. Thanks

Hi

You can take 2 x 500 mg of Paracetamol at a time , as I discovered earlier this year in hospital when I had a kidney stone : to my surprise it really helped with the pain. Some people don’t find paracetamol works for them , but you might like to try a larger dose once to see if it helps.

Best wishes

Rachel

Thank you Rachel. Yes I would have taken two 500mgs tablets. Sometimes it takes the edge off and other times or doesn't touch the pain!!

I have been through the headaches from pegasys all I found helped was lots of water and if paracetamol does not work like the same for me try cocodamol or get the doctor to prescribe something else for the pain, I know exactly what you mean, also try cbd oil or 4head stick worked ok for me sometimes, hope it helps a little
