Are Nummular headaches a symptom of essential Thrombocythemia. or Hydroxy? I get them off and on. I’m was prescribed gabapentin. I don’t like to take it during the day because it makes me drowsy.

Hi ,have you mentioned the drowsiness to whomever prescribed gabapentin?I changed to pregablin for this reason and now take the Max dosage with no problem.

No not headaches it was prescribed for a degenerative spine with nerve damage.Gabapentin left me a dribbling wreck on the sofa.My GP suggested the switch and for me it works.

While headaches can be caused by either ET or hydroxyurea, I would be suspicious that a nummular headache is a separate condition. Suggest consulting with a headache specialist regarding this condition.

Gabapentin is used for treating neuropathic pain. It seems like a reasonable thing to try. As Spanelmad suggests, pregabalin is another option that is in the same class of medications. I tried pregabalin for osteoarthritis pain but it did not work for this type of pain. Perhaps pregabalin will work for you without the same side effects as gabapentin. This would be something to discuss with your prescriber.

Wishing you all the best moving forward.

Thank you so much for your advice. I originally saw a neurologist, and they prescribed gabapentin. If it continues I will follow with the new neurologist that I started seeing for another problem..

I was recently diagnosed with hemicrania continua headaches and prescribed gabapentin. The doctor wanted me at 1800 mg daily, but side effects started bothering me around 1500 mgs, including fatigue. I kept at 1500 for a couple weeks but side effects never stopped. I am at 1200 mg daily now. I have an appoinment scheduled with a new neurologist, for a second opinion, since headaches and pain behind eye remain. I have migraines as well. Good luck.

That’s a very high dosage. I’m only taking 100 mg and it works fine at bedtime. I tried it yesterday morning and I felt slightly lightheaded. I have an appointment with a neurologist in a week. I hope you find something that works for you.
